Gran Canaria Airport - Upon arrival, conveniently collect your rental car at the airport. Most car rental services are situated in the arrival hall of the terminal or in the nearby parking garage P1, just a short walk from the exit.
Maspalomas - Situated in the southern part of Gran Canaria, Maspalomas is the island’s largest beach resort. It boasts stunning, expansive sandy beaches and excellent amenities, including shops, restaurants, bars, and discos.
-
Playa de Maspalomas: The resort’s largest beach, renowned for its peacefulness, though it can be windy with larger waves. The beach also features Faro de Maspalomas, the tallest lighthouse in the Canary Islands.
-
Playa de las Meloneras: A smaller, less windy beach, perfect for those seeking a quieter setting.
-
Playa del Inglés: A beach with golden sand and calm waters, located near the Dunas de Maspalomas nature reserve.
Between the Dunes and the Serene Coast
Mirador De Las Dunas - The Maspalomas Dunes viewpoint offers a unique vantage point with breathtaking views of the famous Maspalomas dunes. Located near the Maspalomas resort, it provides a panoramic view of the vast landscape of sand dunes along the coast. From here, admire the contrast between the golden dunes and the azure Atlantic Ocean. This spot is ideal for photography and nature enthusiasts, especially at sunrise or sunset, when the changing light creates a magical atmosphere.
Reserva Natural Especial de Las Dunas de Maspalomas - The Maspalomas Dunes nature reserve offers an unforgettable experience with rolling sand dunes reminiscent of the Sahara desert, right by the ocean. The best entry point is from the Mirador Las Dunas viewpoint, near the Riu Palace hotel. From there, follow the main marked trail along the edge of the dunes towards the Faro de Maspalomas lighthouse. Alternatively, head towards the sea and continue along the coast to the lighthouse.
In the dunes, stick to marked trails and paved paths to protect this unique environment and assist with navigation.
Awe-Inspiring Heights
Fataga - On your journey, take a break in the village of Fataga. This charming village with traditional white houses is nestled in a beautiful valley. The winding road offers breathtaking scenery, with numerous spots to stop and admire the stunning views.
Pico de las Nieves - At 1,949 meters, Pico de las Nieves is the highest mountain on Gran Canaria. The ascent is easy, with a road leading to the Mirador del Pico de los Pozos de la Nieve viewpoint, ending in a parking lot. For a more active experience, a walk along the ridge is a great option. To hike up the mountain, park in Llanos de la Pez, where a marked trail leads through the forest, gently uphill. The path is well-maintained, mostly shaded by pine trees, and offers beautiful views during the ascent. After about 30-40 minutes of walking, you’ll reach the Mirador del Pico de los Pozos de la Nieve viewpoint, just a few steps from the summit.
Roque Bentayga - The majestic rock of Roque Bentayga rises near the village of Tejeda. The climb is easy and less than 1 km. Park at the Roque Bentayga Parking area, where you’ll find an information center and restrooms, and explore this unique natural monument.
Wild West Coast
Mirador del Balcon - Mirador del Balcón is a stunning viewpoint 500 meters above the cliff, offering a breathtaking view of the entire west coast of Gran Canaria. Located just 50 meters from the car park, it is easily accessible to all visitors.
Beach Gui-Gui - Reach the remote Playa de Güigüí beach either on foot or by boat, each offering a unique experience. The hiking trail starts in the small mountain village of Tasartico, where you can park along the road. From there, head towards Playa del Asno and follow the “Gui-Gui beach trail” signs. The trail crosses a saddle with views of the mountains and ocean, then descends to the beach. This challenging hike is suitable for experienced hikers, with a total length of about 15 km (round trip). It’s recommended to arrive at the beach before 3 pm, when access is safe due to the tide. Alternatively, take a boat trip from Puerto Rico port directly to the beach, saving physical effort. Tickets can be conveniently purchased online, for example, through the Viator platform, offering trips like “Gui Gui Beach Boat Trip with Lunch”.
Historical and Volcanic Wonders
Aguimes - Dive into history in Agüimes, a charming town founded in 1491, and one of Gran Canaria’s most beautiful historical sites.
