Here are some of the many highlights:
- Hoover Dam - Known as a monumental achievement in American engineering and an enduring icon, the Hoover Dam is best appreciated up close. Consider a half-day sightseeing drive to Hoover Dam, or include it as a stop on the way to the Grand Canyon West Rim.
At the dam, park and walk onto the wall to truly grasp the project’s immense size and scale. Capture photos from various vantage points around the dam to highlight its many intriguing details.
- Hoover Dam Bypass - This modern engineering marvel rivals the construction of the Hoover Dam itself. Officials identified the US 93 route over Hoover Dam as a hazardous and congested bottleneck due to both current and anticipated traffic volumes.
Construction began in 2003 and concluded seven years later in 2010. This arch-style bridge stands 890 feet (270m) above the Colorado River, making it the second highest in the United States.
- Skywalk West Rim Of Grand Canyon - Located on the Hualapai Nation’s land, Grand Canyon West offers a blend of breathtaking Grand Canyon views and traditional cultural experiences, all within close proximity to Las Vegas.
The Legacy fee includes shuttle access to three distinct areas: Eagle Point, Guano Point, and the Ranch.
The Glass SkyWalk is perhaps the most iconic feature of this part of the Grand Canyon. The U-shaped, glass-floored walkway extends beyond the rim, allowing visitors to look down to the canyon floor thousands of feet below.
- Guano Point - This stop in Grand Canyon West provides some of the most stunning views of the canyon, even from the general viewing area. The remnants of an old mining operation in caves along the canyon walls add an extra layer of interest to the already impressive views.
For those with energy to spare, a relatively easy scramble to the top of a rock mound offers an even more elevated view of the canyon and its rim.
- Eagle Point - Situated on the Hualapai Reservation, this natural rock formation is part of the Grand Canyon West Rim experience.
The outline of an eagle spreading its wings is clearly visible, and visitors can learn about the legends and sacred rocks. The setting on the edge of the Grand Canyon rim is truly spectacular.
- Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area - The 13-mile loop drive showcases the canyon’s famous red rocks, along with elevated viewpoints, striking rock formations, and ancient petroglyphs.
Hikers can explore several canyons or enjoy some fun rock-hopping trails.
The Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center features indoor interpretive displays, an outdoor plaza with interactive exhibits, stunning views of the surrounding red rock, and a charming gift shop.
- Spring Mountain Ranch State Park - This state park and preserved historical site boasts some of Nevada’s oldest buildings and has had several famous celebrity owners throughout its history.
The ranch is beautifully maintained and offers living history and cultural programs.
- Ethel M Chocolates Factory and Cactus Garden - Who doesn’t love chocolate? Forrest Mars Sr. (of the Mars candy empire) founded Ethel M Chocolates as a retirement project in 1980. Named after his mother, this venture reached $150 million in sales within a few years.
- Lake Mead National Recreation Area - Along the Hoover Dam access road, there is a superb elevated viewpoint offering expansive views of Lake Mead, which was created by the dam’s back-filling.
- Boulder City - Originally developed to house the 5,000 workers constructing the Hoover Dam, this meticulously planned city was built in a harsh desert environment under the supervision of the dam construction consortium. To keep workers focused, alcohol and gambling were prohibited.
Today, visitors can still see some of the historic buildings in downtown, alongside cafes, diners, and art studios, but casinos are absent as gambling remains illegal here.
