Visitors have the chance to hike an active volcano, explore its crater, and even board down its slopes. The steep, black slopes of this volcano are devoid of vegetation. An eruption in 1999 left a wide border of black volcanic material around Cerro Negro, and two smaller craters have recently formed nearby. The crater, often emitting smoke and gas, can be viewed from above, and the crater rim leads to the other side where the impressive volcanic chain, including several volcanoes like Telica and San Cristóbal, can be seen in succession. The steep slopes of the volcano provide an excellent surface for Volcano Boarding, a thrilling activity that quickly brings participants to the bottom. Alternatively, one can walk or run down while taking in the magnificent views. In every way, Cerro Negro offers a unique and exhilarating experience.

Experience the excitement of sliding down the slopes of Cerro Negro Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in Central America. The ascent to the volcano takes approximately one hour. Participants will explore the main crater and walk along the rim to reach the highest point. The panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean are stunning, offering sights of the colonial city of Leon, the ocean, and the volcanic chain. After receiving instructions and donning safety gear, participants slide down the volcano. Speed is managed by using feet as brakes, with increased speed adding to the thrill of the activity. For those who prefer not to board, walking down the volcano is also an option.
