Brosundet i Alesund - Driving time: 10 minutes
Molja lighthouse is located at the end of the pier at Ålesund’s entrance. The pier dates back to 1950, while the current lighthouse was built in 1937 and automated in 1982. Lighthouses have stood here since 1858.
Today, the lighthouse has been transformed into a hotel room with room service. Regardless of the weather, it offers a fascinating experience, with some of the most beautiful sunsets.
This part of Ålesund was where fishing boats arrived. The rich fishing grounds lie just beyond. In the 1950s, Brosundet was bustling with fishing boats seeking shelter or delivering their catch. The lighthouse guided them safely, as well as other boats passing Ålesund.

Alesund - Driving time: 10 minutes
Travel through the city along various streets, admiring the beautiful houses, and cross the famous Hellebroen to the other side of the city. The picturesque Brosundet divides the city, leading out to the lighthouse.
On the night of January 23, 1904, a devastating fire swept through Ålesund, destroying 850 houses and leaving 10,000 people homeless in just 16 hours. By 1907, most of the town center had been rebuilt, inspired by both national romantic influences and the Art Nouveau style of the time. The buildings feature towers, spires, and imaginative, colorful ornaments. It’s important to look up in the streets to appreciate the intricate details that make Ålesund’s architecture so unique. Ålesund holds a special place in both Norwegian and international architectural history. -

The lighthouse has been operational for boats and ships at Alnes since 1853. Her Majesty the Queen of Norway inaugurated the new visitor center at Alnes Lighthouse on October 7, 2016. It features an exciting new signal building, subtly integrated into the terrain.
To ensure the new visitor center blends with the surroundings and existing facilities, much of the 700 square meter building is built into the ground.
Artists Ørnulf Opdahl and Sidsel Colbjørnsen, who reside locally, have donated an art collection for a permanent exhibition. The Queen has visited many times, observed the drawings, and followed the project closely, expressing her admiration for this beautiful, weather-resistant place. -
