Arrival in Lhasa, Pickup at Hada Station, and Hotel Check-in
Lhasa - Travelers will independently purchase their designated flight tickets and check in at Chengdu Airport after meeting with fellow travelers. Upon arrival at Lhasa Gongga Airport, a driver-guide will greet them and transport them by bus along the scenic Lhasa River Belt to the city, allowing them to enjoy the fresh plateau air. Accommodations will be arranged by the travel agency. Upon arrival, it is advisable to rest and avoid going out to acclimate to the altitude.
Tips: Lhasa is situated at an altitude of 3,650 meters, with oxygen levels at 70% compared to the mainland. Most visitors experience some degree of altitude sickness during the first two days. Maintaining a calm mindset, staying hydrated, consuming fruits, and getting plenty of rest are effective ways to prevent altitude sickness.
Exploring Lhasa: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Street
Potala Palace - In the morning, visit the Potala Palace, the world’s highest ancient palace-style architectural complex, serving as the residence of the Dalai Lama and the center of Tibetan political and religious authority. It houses golden spiritual towers containing the authentic Dalai Lama, along with murals, Thangka, and Buddha statues that epitomize Tibetan culture.
Jokhang Temple - After lunch, explore the Jokhang Temple, the earliest Buddhist temple built during the Tubo Kingdom. It enshrines the 12-year-old statue of Sakyamuni, which accompanied Princess Wencheng to Tibet. This statue is the most revered Buddha image for Tibetans. Visitors can witness the devotion of the people and join them in prayers for all beings around the octagonal street.
Tips: When visiting Tibet, remember to remove hats and sunglasses, refrain from smoking, and avoid touching Buddha statues, turning books, or ringing bells. For other Buddhist artifacts like beads and amulets, do not touch them. Some temples prohibit photography, so adhere to these rules.
Barkhor Street - Located in the heart of Lhasa’s ancient city, Barkhor Street retains its original appearance. It is a hub for Lhasa’s religion, economy, culture, national handicrafts, and Tibetan customs, making it a must-visit for travelers.
