Lhasa Sightseeing: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street
Potala Palace - Begin the day with a visit to the renowned Potala Palace, exploring its grand chapels, audience halls, jeweled and golden burial chortens (stupa tombs) of past Dalai Lamas, and numerous Buddhist frescoes, thangkas, and mandalas.
Jokhang Temple - In the afternoon, visit the sacred Jokhang Temple, a revered site for Tibetan Buddhists. This architectural marvel combines Tibetan, Tang, Nepalese, and Indian styles, representing a timeless symbol of Tibetan religious architecture.
Barkhor Street - After visiting Jokhang Temple, enjoy a leisurely stroll around it in a clockwise direction, explore the handicraft market on Barkhor Street, or simply wander the streets, soaking in the warmth of the Sunlight City. Alternatively, relax in a charming tea house and experience the leisurely lifestyle of Tibetan locals.
Lhasa-Yamdrok Lake-Karola Glacier-Shigatse
Yamdrok Yumtso Lake - Depart from Lhasa in the morning and drive to Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet’s three sacred lakes. As the highest freshwater lake in the world, Yamdrok Lake sits at an altitude of 4,441 meters. After descending the mountain, enjoy a close view of the lake, where the deep blue water meets distant snow-capped mountains, distinctive Tibetan villages, and herds of cattle and sheep, offering a sense of peace and joy.
Karo La Glacier - In the afternoon, pass by the majestic Karola Glacier, experiencing its grandeur and ethereal clouds. Arrive at the heroic city of Tibet—Gyantse County, and view the Gyantse Fortress from afar. Continue along the Gyantse Plain to reach Shigatse, an important town in western Tibet.
Shigatse—Tingri—EBC
Rongbuk Monastery - Travel westward along the Friendship Highway to Tingri. The journey from Tingri to Rongbuk is approximately 90km, passing through wild grasslands, crossing rapid rivers, and high mountains. On clear days, glimpse four mountains over 8,000 meters high, including Mt. Lhotse (8,516m), Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt. Qowowuyag (8,201m), and Mt. Makalu (8,463m).
EBC—Tingri—Shigatse
Mount Everest - Witness the sunrise over Mt. Everest from Rongbuk in the early morning. Afterward, take a local bus or trek to Everest Base Camp, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours one way. Hiking is interesting and warmer, though breathing can be challenging. Capture stunning photos of Mt. Everest from the top of the photo point. Later, return from EBC to Tingri via highway and back to Shigatse.
Shigatse-Tashilunpo Monastery-Lhasa
Tashilunpo Monastery - Before the 4-hour drive back to Lhasa from Shigatse, visit Tashilunpo Monastery, the largest in West Tibet and a significant historic site. Founded in 1447 by a disciple of Tsongkapa, it is one of the six great Gelukpa institutions and houses the world’s largest gilded copper image (26m high) of the future god Jampa. Travel along the highway back to Lhasa.
Lhasa—Namtso—Northern Tibet Grassland—Lhasa
Lake Namtso - In the early morning, journey through the vast grasslands of northern Tibet, witnessing colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. Cross the 5,190-meter-high Nagela Mountain Pass to reach Namtso, the first of Tibet’s three sacred lakes, known as the ‘Heavenly Lake,’ at an altitude of 4,718 meters. Namtso Lake is the highest saltwater lake in the world and the second largest in China. Return to Lhasa in the evening, accompanied by the glow of the setting sun.
Departure from Lhasa, Airport Drop-off
Lhasa - After breakfast, check out of the hotel. The driver will pick up guests and transfer them to Lhasa Airport or the train station, concluding a delightful and mysterious journey. Guests are warmly welcomed to return to the beautiful Tibet in the future. Tashi Delek!
