Lima - Arrive in Lima, a bustling metropolis with a population of around 11 million, making it the largest city in South America. Relax and, if desired, explore the city independently.
Travel by bus to Huaraz (3100 m). The journey is 400km and takes 8 hours
Huaraz - This journey promises to be diverse and captivating. The route follows the Pan American highway northward through the stunning Pacific coastal desert. As the terrain elevates, the path leads through the Cordillera Negra (Black Range) at Conococha Pass (4020 m) into the Santa Valley and Huaraz (3100m). Beyond the pass, enjoy a delightful view of the Cordillera Blanca mountains, undoubtedly some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery. Alternatively, fly with LCPERU – flight time is 50 minutes.
On bikes for an acclimatization day: Huaraz - Marian - Huanchac - Wilcahuain - Monterrey - Huaraz
Huaraz - Begin the first day on bikes, east of Huaraz, to acclimate to the altitude. The route is Huaraz – Marian – Huanchac – Wilcahuain – Monterrey – Huaraz. Cycle through fields and eucalyptus forests, along valley slopes, and through the villages of Marianan and Huanchac, reaching Wilcahuain (3,250 m) to explore pre-Incan ruins. Enjoy a picnic lunch in Wilcahuain, then leisurely continue to the Monterrey hot springs for swimming and relaxation. Return to Huaraz afterward. Total biking distance: 20 km.
Huaraz - On bikes for acclimatization; visit tour to Wilcacocha (3725 m) in the Cordillera Negra, back to Huaraz
Laguna Wilcacocha - Today, visit the Cordillera Negra, offering a magnificent view of the Cordillera Blanca. Wilcacocha serves as an exceptional viewpoint for the Cordillera Blanca, allowing identification of peaks (from north to south) such as Huandoy, Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Hualcan, Copa, Vallunaraju, Ocshapalca, Ranrapalca, Palcaraju, Churup, Chinchey, San Juan, Huamasraju, Huatzan, Cashan, Shacsha, Pucaraju, Muruaraju, and Caullaraju. Return to Huaraz.
Huaraz - On bikes for acclimatization via Llupa - Pitec. Trek to Laguna Churup (4450 m), back to Pitec. Downhill to Huaraz
Laguna Churup - On the third day of acclimatization, start with a downhill ride from Wilcacocha to Huaraz. Then, take a short car ride (with bikes) through the villages of Unchus and Llupa to Pitec (3850 m) in the Cordillera Blanca. From Pitec, embark on a 5-6 hour hike to Laguna Churup, which is inaccessible by bike but well worth the effort. Laguna Churup is located at the base of the 5000-meter Nevado (Mount) Churup glacier. Descend back to Pitec on foot and either ride downhill or take a car to Huaraz. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Huaraz-Carhuaz; cycling from Carhuaz - Shilla - Quebrada Ulta; Camp at the foot of Punta Olimpica Pass (3950 m)
Huascaran National Park - Travel by minibus from Huaraz to the village of Carhuaz (2,650 m) to begin the seven-day Huascarán Circuit. Cycle from Carhuaz, passing the village of Shilla (2910 m) and entering Huascarán National Park. Camp at the start of the climb to Punta Olimpica Pass, near the glacial mountains (“Nevados“) of Contrahierbas, Ulta, and Huascarán.
Cycling over Punta Olímpica Pass(4890 m) - Cancaraca Lakes - Valley Quebrada Cancaracá Chica-Pompeyo; Camp (3500 m)
Huascaran National Park - From Quebrada Ulta, tackle the next challenge: Punta Olimpica Pass (4890 m). It’s the first and most challenging climb of the tour. After 3-4 hours of effort, covering 20km and 29 curves, reach the pass, offering a stunning panorama in the heart of the Cordillera Blanca: the snowy peak of Huascarán with its massive east wall, and the steep ice wall of Chopicalqui, close enough to touch the glacier. Descend rapidly past the Cancaracá Lakes and continue to camp near the village of Pompeyo (3,500 m). Today’s route is on asphalt from Carhuaz to the Quebrada los Conchucos. Camp at Pompeyo.
Camp Pompeyo - Bicycle-excursion to Azulcocha Lake (4316 m) an old mine (4550 m); downhill back to Pompeyo Camp (3500 m)
Huascaran National Park - From Pompeyo, follow the route to Lake Azulcocha (4,316 m) amidst a stunning mountain landscape beneath the glaciers of Nevado Atlante (Atlantis Peak). The route to the old mine is technically and physically demanding. Visit the abandoned mine and enjoy a long downhill ride (partly on a single-track bridle path) back to Pompeyo. Camp at the same location (3,500 m).
Pompeyo - Cycling - Chacas - Acochaca - Río Chucpin (2850 m) –San Luis (3125 m); Camp at Pompeyo
Huascaran National Park - Begin on pavement with gentle climbs and flat sections through the villages of Chacas (3,450 m) and the Chucpin Acochaca River bridge (2,850 m), followed by an uphill climb to San Luis village, with about 400 meters of descent, and a dirt bike trail starting at 33 km. Camp at San Luis (3,125 m).
Pueblo San Luis - Cycle to Llacma (2500 m) - Camp at Huamas (3200 m)
Huascaran National Park - Experience some downhill with short climbs and descents until reaching the bike trail or asphalt road in Llacma (2,500 m), from where views of the high mountains are visible again. Ascend through a series of switchbacks to the small village of Huamas. Cycle approximately 40 km. Camp at Huamas (3,200 m).
Huamas-Cycling to Yanama - Quebrada Morococha - Pampamachay (4350 m); Camp
Huascaran National Park - Cycle uphill through Yanama village (3,400 m) and other native villages, reaching Colcabamba and then the steep climb to Quebrada Morococha. After 12 to 15 extended curves, find the camp in the small meadow of Pampamachay under the north flank of Nevado Chopicalqui (6,354 m), covering about 30 km. Camp at 4,350 m.
Pampamachay Bike to Portachuelo Llanganuco Pass (4650 m) Descend to the Valley Llanganuco & finally Yungay Bus to Huaraz
Huaraz - Begin the final stage of the circuit with a 10 km ride to Portachuelo de Llanganuco Pass (4,650 m), the second grand view of the Cordillera Blanca. After much physical effort, enjoy an impressive panoramic view of these beautiful tropical mountains. To the north, see Chopicalqui and Huascarán; to the east, the snowcapped peaks of Huandoy; to the south, the peaks of Chacraraju. Celebrate the Trans-Cordillera Blanca biking route with a long and thrilling descent with switchbacks to the Llanganuco lakes and toward Yungay. Riding distance is approximately 50km. Travel by bus to Huaraz. Hotel accommodation.
Huaraz-Catac biking to Quebrada Gueshgue & Puya Raimondi (4300 m); short hike Laguna Jarpococha; downhill back to Huaraz
Huaraz - On the final day in the mountains and of the tour, travel by bus 35 km south of Huaraz to Catac village (3.536 m), and cycle about 16 km through Quebrada Gueshgue in Huascarán National Park. From the road at Laguna Gueshguecocha (4,350 m), observe the ravine where the famous Puya raimondi flowers grow up to 12 meters tall. This giant plant, resembling a candle, thrives only in the southern Cordillera Blanca and a few places in Bolivia. The final leg is downhill, followed by a bus ride back to Huaraz, about 25 km. Hotel accommodation.
Transfer to Anta Airport & 50-minute flight or transfer to the bus terminal for the 8-hour ride to Lima, Arrival to Lima
