- Miradouro da Senhora do Monte - This viewpoint is the highest point in the city and offers one of the best views over Lisbon. It was once the Hermitage of Nossa Senhora do Monte, founded in 1147 and dedicated to Saint Gens, a bishop who, according to tradition, was martyred here. It was on this ancient Monte de São Gens that D. Afonso Henriques set up camp to conquer the city.
- Panteao Nacional - The current temple stands on the site of a church built in 1568 by order of Infanta D. Maria, daughter of D. Manuel I, to house the relics of the virgin martyr Engrácia of Zaragoza and to mark the creation of the parish of Santa Engrácia. This ancient church was built on the site of a mid-12th century temple but was severely damaged by a storm in 1681. The first stone of the current building was laid the following year, in 1682. The construction took so long that it inspired the popular expression “works of Santa Engrácia” to describe something that never ends. The church was only completed in 1966, 284 years after it began, by express order of the government at the time.
- Lisbon Cathedral - This Romanesque-style building began construction in 1147 when D. Afonso Henriques conquered the city from the Moors and was completed in the early decades of the 13th century.
- Miradouro das Portas do Sol - Named after the old Porta do Sol, part of the Moorish wall of Lisbon, which was destroyed in the 1755 earthquake. Portas do Sol was an ancient entrance to the city walls. From the Miradouro das Portas do Sol, visitors can see the Church of São Vicente de Fora and the entire typical Alfama neighborhood, which stretches through several narrow and winding streets to the Tagus River.
- Miradouro da Graça (Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen) - This viewpoint and the Convento da Graça offer one of the most beautiful views of the city. Behind the viewpoint is the Augustinian monastery, founded in 1271 and rebuilt after the earthquake.
- Igreja de São Vicente de Fora - The Church of São Vicente began construction in 1582 on the site where D. Afonso Henriques had ordered the building of an earlier temple, also dedicated to São Vicente. This saint was declared the patron saint of Lisbon in 1173 when his relics were moved from the Algarve to a church outside the city walls.
- Alfama - A typical Lisbon neighborhood, rich in history and traditions.
