Elevador da Glória - Also known as Ascensor da Glória, this funicular railway line is located in the Santo António parish of Lisbon, Portugal. It connects the Pombaline downtown area at Restauradores Square with Bairro Alto, specifically the Garden/Overlook of São Pedro de Alcântara, and is operated by Carris.
The line operates on the funicular principle, with two cars permanently attached to opposite ends of a haulage cable, looped over a pulley at the track’s upper end. Uniquely, traction is provided by electric motors on the cars, powered through an overhead wire. The cable links the two cars, allowing them to ascend and descend simultaneously, each car serving as a counterweight to the other. - Rossio Square - Commonly known as Rossio, King Pedro IV Square (Portuguese: Praça de D. Pedro IV) is situated in Lisbon’s Pombaline Downtown. It has been a central square since the Middle Ages, hosting popular revolts, celebrations, bullfights, and executions. Today, it is a favored meeting spot for both locals and tourists.
