opiddum, signifying a

extbf{fortified city}. Successively inhabited by the Visigoths and Moors, it was eventually reclaimed by Portugal's inaugural monarch, King Afonso Henriques, in 1148. The town's ramparts bear the imprints of its historical inhabitants, perched atop a hill offering panoramic views of the
