Ljubljana Castle history, art, nature - Start from the main city and walk up the hill to the Castle.
Choose the entrance ticket, so you can enjoy various exhibitions.
And go to top tower to admire the view.
Do not forget to enter the movie inside is is magical and one of my favorite attractions. And of course take a picture to the well of wishes.
Go down to the city with the funicular

A good day! - It is safe to say this is the main tourist attraction in Ljubljana! We bought our tickets online, including a short ride up on the funicular. We took our time roaming the castle. Our ticket included a 4D video of the castle's history, narrated by a mouse. Views from the top of the tower were also great. You can explore some of the castle for free, I'd say worth paying though.
Only issue I had was the lack of free toilets when you've paid for a ticket! Outrageous.

Disappointing castle, fab views. - The castle is spectacular viewed from the town and the views from the castle are also spectacular.... So it's worth going up there. But the castle itself is a bit disappointing.
It's quite hard to navigate, you have to pay a euro to go to the loo, the museum is very dull. The only thing that brings it to life is the short 4D film taking you on a whistlestop tour of the castle's past. This is actually really good (it's 4D cos it includes rain!).
The Courtyard is also a nice place for a drink.
So go for the views and the film!

nicely restored castle. - We took the cable car to the castle (€3PP only). This is a 2-minute drive with views of the city. You can visit the castle itself for free, but you can only visit several rooms with an entrance ticket. We did not do this because the ticket was reasonably expensive.
You do have a very nice view of Ljubljana. There is a star restaurant in the castle square.
We went down on foot. If you want to go up on foot, this seems like a brisk climb. Especially not for people with walking difficulties.

Wonderful views of the old town but the entrance ticket was a bit pricey - One of the ‘must-sees’ when visiting the city of Ljubljana. Perched on a hilltop, it offers amazing views of the entire city, especially from the top of the tower.
It is reachable via a short hike from the old town, or there is the cable car option too.
The entrance ticket was rather pricey in my opinion. The castle itself was rather crowded, with various exhibition rooms showcasing a number of different themes including the history of Slovenia, its culture, a chapel etc..
Probably not my favourite sight visited in Ljubljana, but overall still glad I went there.

Nice castle, but organization is a bit opaque - The castle itself was quite nice. We were there on the weekend and she was quite busy.
What we missed a little bit was the routing. What is the best way to go to really see everything?
Some things can be viewed free of charge, others require a ticket. However, it is nowhere explained which areas are now really subject to charges and which are not. There are some turnstiles where you have to scan your ticket, in some areas a person also sits at a table and scans the tickets. Other areas can obviously be viewed by anyone.
The toilet cost 1 euro, but as we found out shortly afterwards, there was also a second toilet that was free to use. This is located in the Castle Theatre (Grajsko gledališče), but is not written to.

Very interesting – but family-friendly is different - We visited Ljubljana Castle with our two young children. The view and ambience are definitely impressive, also the puppet theatre museum was beautifully made. Unfortunately, however, we found that orientation on the castle grounds was anything but easy. There are some signposts and overview boards, but they are not particularly helpful or intuitive.
An example: Our big son was really looking forward to the so-called Dragon Cave – the name alone raises expectations among children. After a long search (without clear clues) we finally found them – only to find that this is a locked event room. The disappointment was great.
What we particularly lacked was a family-friendly guidance system. If you don’t give out physical maps anymore, you could at least make better use of digital solutions: e.g. interactive routes depending on visitor interest (families, culture enthusiasts, couples, etc.) or QR codes with background information, child-friendly explanations or audio guides – and please do so free of charge. Because we find charging extra money for a simple audio guide to be outdated and not very hospitable.
Conclusion: The castle is beautiful and well worth seeing, but especially for families there is a lack of thoughtful visitor guidance and contemporary, digital support.

Another Castle in Europe. - Yet another castle, the climb was really steeper than many castles, those I have climbed, however nothing much at the top to view or experience.

No respect for tourists - A tourist catch. The tour is free except for a small part and yet they sell the ticket at the bottom of the funicular without specifying it.
The castle is completely redone, it no longer has anything authentic.
There is little on display inside. Disappointing.

Nothing to see here. - We were so disappointed.
The funicular railway was a promising start, but, at the top, the views are disappointing and the whole place feels “staged” with much of the history hidden behind art galleries and up to date detail.
For what must be the jewel of Ljubljana, it was a massive let down.
