Homage to to the historical significance of this mighty battleship USS Iowa - What an amazing experience to be on this floating piece of history. Before coming, I would suggest you visit the Battleship Iowa Facebook page or similar and watch some of the YouTube videos about the history of the ship. Once you step foot on here, you realize the significance of this ship in our nations history. I really appreciated the homage to the 47 soldiers killed in 1989 enter two. Something I learned while here. When you realize you’re on hollowed ground not only for its historical significance but for those sailors that were killed during the explosion in turret 2. This is a very worthwhile experience. Enjoy yourselves, but remember those who served.

A definite see in San Pedro, California - Seeing this battleship was an amazing experience. The amount of history they have been able to preserve is amazing. This is definitely something I would do again and would recommend to others.

An excellent escape room experience that is truly unique. - We did the Mothball Fleet Escape Room. Della was our guide, she was unbelievably fun and friendly. We got to talk with one of the tour guides Adam. Super nice and knowledgeable. It was an amazing experience and encourage all to literally experience history.

Never Forgotten… experience of many lifetimes - While touring the USS Iowa, the words never forgotten kept coming to mind. We have lived through periods of war to live in peace, at the supreme costs of lives dedicated to freedom. May we never forget the cost of the freedom we experience today.

Great for quick trip (1.5... - Great for quick trip (1.5 - 2.5 hrs) when visiting the area. Parking was plenty and inexpensive. Very interesting seeing the ship, yet at times not enough “descriptive” signage.

Iowa tour not so great - Disappointed in the condition of the ship and the exhibits. Compared to other historic navy ships, it was obvious the Iowa does not have the money or resources that others have. The teak deck is in terrible shape and is being replaced with composite materials. The areas of the ship available for self-guided tours is very limited compared to the.Midway or Lexington

Meh. - + + Parking is easy, close and cheap. - Lots of the ship's bowels are off limits; you can see the galley/mess area, a memorabilia section and the gift shop down there, but not much else below decks. You zig-zag through the upper sections of the ship but can't even step into any of the turrets; you can stick your phone in and snap a couple but kind of a letdown. - The docents I asked a question to did not know the answer to my question, which was fine, but one of them was a little unhinged and had to be settled down from his rant by the other one. I know they're volunteers but sheesh. - - - The souvenir penny machine is a scam: it doesn't take quarters, so charges a dollar (if you have a dollar on you) or will let you pay by card...it charges 4 DOLLARS to pay for a penny this way. But don't worry, they provide the penny :| ___________________________________ Overall, no surprise that this wasn't as interesting a tour as seeing the Missouri back in the 90s; lots more of the ship was off-limits. And I'm sure the Iowa is a lot more open to walking/viewing than the USS Texas (which cost something like 3x or 4x as much to see), but still, not a great stop. Go to the maritime museum (just down the road) instead, or better yet, go see any number of beautiful coastal attractions. You're in LA, after all!
