- Lourmarin - Recognized as one of France’s most picturesque villages, Lourmarin boasts charming Provençal tiled houses. This medieval village was established around the year 1000 and features a stunning Renaissance-style castle from the 15th and 16th centuries. During this era, Lourmarin experienced the religious wars, which is why from the castle terrace, one can see both the Catholic church’s bell tower and a 19th-century Protestant temple. Tragically, 3,000 Protestants lost their lives during these wars in the Luberon. The renowned writer Albert Camus resided in Lourmarin, and his final resting place is in the village cemetery.
- Chateau de Lourmarin - Dating back to the 15th-16th century, the Lourmarin castle is a Renaissance masterpiece open to visitors. Guests can explore its interiors and architectural wonders. A beautiful terrace at the castle’s entrance offers a breathtaking view of the medieval village. In May, this terrace blooms with roses. Entry is priced at €8 per person.
- Marche de Lourmarin - Lourmarin hosts one of the region’s most delightful markets. If visiting on a Friday, one can enjoy the market’s vibrant atmosphere and explore regional products such as olives, tapenades, candied garlic, dry sausage, local goat cheeses, country bread, seasonal fruits and vegetables, Provence herbs, fruit jellies, honey, nougat, and Camargue sea salt. Musicians in the village streets enhance the market’s unique ambiance.
- Bonnieux - Located in the northern Luberon, Bonnieux offers panoramic views of the mountain range and the Calavon valley. The mistral, Provence’s iconic wind, can be felt here. Visitors can admire century-old cedars and a 12th-century chapel at the summit.
- Roussillon - Celebrated as one of France’s most beautiful villages, Roussillon is the most colorful in Provence due to its ocher pigment. The village features ocher quarries where pigment was extracted in the 18th century. Today, Roussillon presents a unique spectacle with its red and orange hues contrasting with the surrounding forests. All village houses are painted with this pigment, and the ocher quarries are open to visitors.
- Le Sentier des Ocres - These 18th-century quarries are open to the public, weather permitting. Visitors are advised to check the schedule before visiting, as the quarries may close due to rain or storms. It’s recommended to avoid wearing white shoes, as they may turn orange. Entry is €3.5 per person.
- Gordes - Gordes has been named the most beautiful village in the world by an American travel magazine in 2023. As one approaches the village, a magnificent view unfolds, best admired from a stone balcony. A leisurely stroll through the picturesque streets is highly recommended, with a stop by the fountain in the castle square. The film “Happy New Year” was filmed here.
- Gordes Castle - With a history spanning over 1,000 years, this castle is centrally located in the village, surrounded by typical Provençal houses. It hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year, which visitors can explore. Entry is €6 per person.
- Caves du Palais Saint Firmin - This unique museum in Gordes offers a glimpse into the medieval villagers’ workspaces. Craftsmen were compelled to set up their workshops in the basements of houses, with cavities carved into the rock forming the floors. These spectacular cavities provide insight into the daily life and challenges faced by craftsmen in Gordes. Entry is €6 per person.
