A great way to see crocs up close in their natural environment - A very informative experience on a nice quiet electric boat. We were not disappointed in the amount of wildlife we saw. Mark was very good at spotting even a small green tree frog and was knowledgeable about all the creatures. Was just an hour long so the perfect short excursion.

An Unmissable Experience on the Ancient Daintree River - Sunday 10 August 2025 marked the third time I’ve taken a Solar Whisper Crocodile Tour just this year—and every single trip has been a unique and memorable adventure. Whenever I visit Cairns from Brisbane, this tour is always #1 on my to-do list. There's just something magical about cruising the ancient Daintree River (believed to be around 135 million years old and part of a UNESCO World Heritage-listed rainforest) that keeps calling me back. Each trip this year has offered something different, and that’s what makes it so special. In January, despite the summer heat (when crocs typically stay submerged), we lucked out and saw a massive monster croc basking on the riverbank at ‘Stinky Creek’. In April, we were treated to the rare sight of baby crocs basking on branches—a particularly special moment considering recent flooding had washed away many nests in prior years. And in August, during the dry season and at low tide, the tour was an absolute treat: we saw a tiny baby hunting prawns in the shallows, another slightly larger juvenile swimming gracefully, and several named and unnamed crocodiles along the way. We saw Dusty basking lazily on the bank, the big boy Nate near the water’s edge, and—what a finale—the legendary Scarface, the King himself, watching us intently as he floated across the river. It felt like we had stepped into a live documentary. A huge shoutout to John, who has been my guide twice now. He’s not your typical showy tour guide—he’s genuine, knowledgeable, respectful of the environment, and clearly passionate about the Daintree and its wild residents. His commentary is informative without being overbearing, and you walk away having learned something meaningful every time. This tour is also incredibly affordable, especially considering the quality of the experience. Seeing these ancient, powerful creatures in their natural habitat, behaving as they would without human interference, is a true privilege—and something I never take for granted. I cannot recommend Solar Whisper enough. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, there’s always something to see, something to learn, and something to marvel at on the Daintree River. Follow their Instagram to keep up with the local croc characters—especially the stars of the “Days of the Daintree”!

Excellent cruise - Great trip, guide is very knowledgeable, saw plenty of crocs. Boat only has one row of seats in each side unlike other larger boats which can be 3x3 so everyone gets a good view and the skipper turns the boat so both sides gets close to each croc!

Silently blending in - Fantastic viewing of crocodiles in their natural habitat, all ages from babies to fully grown adults, both male and females. We were also saw many birds and their nests, tree frogs, snakes and water dragons. Excellent guiding and information from David. It was just lovely to be in a small silent boat that did not disturb the wildlife. Jen and Bob

This is a MUST do!! - Great tour & guide! We saw several crocodiles, including Scarface & a tiny baby croc. Scarface was displaying his latest catch, a pig, on the shore. The boat got right up close to the shore & the crocs, much closer than we expected! The tour guide told us about all the different crocs. If you are in the area, this is a must do tour!

A Must Do! - Fantastic experience. The commentary was outstanding. The passion of our driver for the crocodile shone through. He was so expert on driving the boat up close to the wildlife. He knew where to find the crocodiles but also pointed out other interesting birds and wildlife. Our 1 hour trip turned into 75 minutes as on the way back crocodile Nate had decided to swim and our driver was happy to delay our return so we could see and photograph this.
