- Pak Ou Caves - Situated approximately 25km from Luang Prabang, where the Nam Ou River meets the Mekong, these two caves offer a scenic journey by slow-moving longboat. As you travel upriver, you can observe locals fishing and hear the joyful laughter of children playing in the water. The caves are highly revered throughout Laos and are a popular destination for both tourists and pilgrims. Inside, there are around 4,000 statues and statuettes, mostly of Buddha, many adorned with delicate gilding. The first cave is accessible via a steep staircase from the riverbank, while the second cave is deeper within the mountain, so be sure to bring a flashlight!
