- Khor Virap - Khor Virap is renowned as Armenia’s most significant pilgrimage destination, closely linked to the country’s adoption of Christianity. Christianity became the state religion in Armenia in 301, largely due to the efforts of Saint Gregory The Illuminator. Before converting King Trdat III to Christianity, Saint Gregory was imprisoned in a dungeon, over which the Khor Virap monastery church was constructed in the 17th century. Visitors to the monastery can enjoy breathtaking views of the Biblical Mount Ararat.
- The Monastery of Geghard - The Geghard monastery is an unparalleled masterpiece of 13th-century Armenian architecture. Some of the churches within the complex are expertly carved into a massive rock. Initially known as Ayrivank (cave monastery), it was later renamed Geghard (lance) because the lance used by a Roman soldier to pierce Jesus Christ’s side was preserved here for many centuries. Geghardavank is an ideal location for performing spiritual songs due to its unique construction. The complex is adorned with intricate sculptural decorations and numerous impressive khachkars (cross-stones). This site is listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
- Garni Temple - The Garni temple, perched on a triangular cape, is the only surviving example of pagan culture in Armenia. It represents a fusion of Greco-Roman and Armenian architectural styles. King Trdat I commissioned the temple’s construction in the first century AD, dedicating it to the Sun God. After the adoption of Christianity in 301, the pagan temple lost its importance, and the Garni fortress became the kings’ summer residence. Today, the ruins of the royal palace and a bathhouse with a remarkable mosaic can be found near the temple.
