- Khor Virap - Khor Virap is a renowned Armenian monastery situated in the Ararat plain of Armenia, close to the sealed border with Turkey. Its significance as a monastery and pilgrimage destination stems from the fact that Gregory the Illuminator was held captive here for approximately 14 years by King Tiridates III of Armenia. Gregory later became the king’s spiritual advisor, and together they spearheaded the country’s conversion efforts. In 301 AD, Armenia became the first nation globally to adopt Christianity as its state religion. A chapel was first constructed at Khor Virap in 642 by Nerses III the Builder to honor Saint Gregory.
- Areni Wine Factory - The village of Areni is located roughly 120 km from Yerevan along the banks of the Arpa River. At the village’s entrance, on the left side of the road, lies a small private wine factory named “Areni,” where visitors can explore the wine-making process and sample the local wines.
- Noravank Monastery - Noravank is a 13th-century Armenian monastery located 122 km from Yerevan in a narrow gorge carved by the Amaghu River, near Yeghegnadzor, Armenia. The gorge is famous for its towering, sheer, brick-red cliffs that face the monastery. Noravank is particularly noted for its two-story Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) church, which features a narrow stone staircase projecting from the building’s facade, showcasing one of the earliest examples of cantilever architecture.
