• Khor Virap - Situated about an hour’s drive from Yerevan, the Khor Virap monastery offers a breathtaking view of Armenia’s iconic symbol, the majestic Mount Ararat. “Khor Virap” means “deep dungeon,” and it was constructed on the site of the former royal prison at the historic location of Artashat. This prison famously held Gregory the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholicos, for 13 years. As a result, it is one of the most revered sites for Armenians worldwide. Additionally, it is the closest point to Mount Ararat from Armenia, often becoming the top reason to visit the country.
• T’rchuneri (Bird) Cave - The tour includes a visit to Bird’s Cave, where archaeologists in 2008 uncovered some of the world’s oldest artifacts, such as a leather shoe and a winery. Overlooking the Arpa River near Areni, the site is believed to date back to the Early Bronze Age (approximately 5,000-6,000 years ago). It also provides evidence of complex burial rituals and agricultural practices.
• Noravank Monastery - Another must-see location is Noravank, a jewel of medieval Armenian architecture, set high among the striking brick-red cliffs at the end of the Gnishik Canyon. Here, visitors can see the only depiction of God the Father in Armenia, as well as the remarkable face of Jesus Christ on the dome of the Church’s narthex. Built by the Orbelian noble family, it is unique as their sepulcher, since burying people inside a church has been prohibited since the 5th century.
• Wings of Tatev - This is the world’s longest cableway (approximately 6 km), recognized by the Guinness Book of Records in 2010. The ride offers a stunning view of one of Armenia’s most beautiful landscapes, if not the world’s.
• Tatev Monastery - Tatev Monastery is an essential stop in Armenia, once serving as the country’s educational and spiritual hub. It is perched on a high plateau in the Vorotan River gorge, surrounded by magnificent mountains and lush forests.
