Extraordinary Experience in Japan - The experience was phenomenal. Sensei was friendly and professional and the day was well structured, educational, enjoyable and unforgettable. It combined historical and theoretical learning with practical exercises, team sparring and the grass mat cutting. I would highly recommend joining. This was a highlight of our time in Japan.

Definitely worth taking this class! - I am so glad that I signed up for this class. Yoshiiki Sumida delivered on everything promised, and more. He said it well, this is not a tourist trap. The instruction was clear and well done. To my amazement, I was able to cut the rolled tatami mat several times. I never even held a sword before this class. This is one of the most memorable parts of my trip.

Full experience with real samurai sword training - Had an amazing training experience, also learning some history, technique, sparring. My favorite was being able to use a real sword for cutting. Absolutely exhilarating, and I would do it again if I had the time. Highly recommended!

Memory of a Lifetime - Took a class with Teacher Sumida—guy knows his stuff when it comes to katanas! It’s super interactive, all hands-on, and definitely not kid-friendly. You get to spar one-on-one with him, which is intense and awesome, plus learn the right way to handle a real sword and the etiquette that goes with it. Cutting real tatami mats was a blast! Tip: show up early to get setup.

You will be sore the next day - Probably the top highlight of my recent trip to Japan. The owner is a true professional teacher and very, very good with a Katana. We spent our class learning the history of the samurai before practicing sparring and finally cutting tatami mats with a Katana, which was very satisfying. Of note, the location is about ~1 hour outside of central Tokyo by train, but my wife and I had no trouble getting there. Definitely get there on time because you don't want to miss any of it!

Real Deal Samarai Experience! - Amazing lesson from an authentic Samarai Warrior! First, suit up in an authentic Kamishimo. Next, a brief lesson on the history of Samarai and swords, Next, learn the basics. Sensei Yoshioki makes everything look simple, but it’s not. Finally, you get to apply what you’ve learned with some real slicing-followed by brief ceremony. Well worth the trip!

You feel like an actual samurai, not a poser - Yoshioki-Sensei is an amazing teacher. He is very patient and is clear with his instructions. The first part of the lesson was a great dive into Japanese swords and the focus of his school. The training session was fun and also challenging, you do build up a bit of sweat. But at the end of you follow the lesson plan and listen well you achieve a good blade path which feel great, especially when cutting through a tatami. Yoshioki-Sensei gives great encouragement and will give you every chance to successfully cut. It does feel a bit daunting at first holding a katana, but the teacher does a great job in making sure you feel comfortable and everyone remains safe.

Top Notch Experience. - Master Sumida is very knowledgable of not only swordsmanship, but also samurai cultures and traditions as well. In this class you learn about the construction, application, history, and use of the katana. He has an excellent eye for safety and will make sure you leave better than you entered the dojo.

Fun energetic informative & unique - I attended the Bizenkai Samarai class on my recent trip to Japan. It was a fun experience. It was very easy to find and took under 60 mins from Tokyo station by train. Mr Sumida spoke English very fluently, so I did not need to know any Japanese in the class. He explained about the Japanese swords and how they were made as well as the correct sword cutting techniques, dojo style, sparing etiquette and much more. I really enjoyed our sparring session. At the end I received a certificate with my name freshly written in Japanese and had some photos with Sumida sensei. I would highly recommend this class!

It was the highlight of my trip! - I highly recommend the Bizenkai Samarai class Sumida sensei offers a multi-faceted holistic approach to teaching Japanese swordsmanship. It is truly a mind body & spiritual experience. The class was one of the most informative, engaging and enjoyable classes that I have attended. The class content exactly matches the class overview mentioned in the advertisement. The mock duel to practise moves of offence and defence was particularly fun. Sensei is a very disciplined, skilled and thorough master of swords, but more than that he is a personable and passionate teacher and cultural ambassador. It was an honour to be a part of his class.
