Experience the thrill of history as cannon blasts echo, rifles fire, and soldiers march. The oldest building in Michigan, along with 13 other historical structures, features exhibits that delve into military training, battles, medical treatments, and family life within the fort.
Fort Mackinac was more than just a military post; it was a home for soldiers and their families and later became the headquarters for Mackinac National Park. Tourists have long visited this impressive fortress on the bluff, just as they do today.
- The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum - Find inspiration here. This museum uniquely brings together an exceptional collection of Mackinac-related art and photography, narrating Mackinac’s story. Complementing the natural beauty of Mackinac Island, the museum allows visitors to explore fine and decorative arts inspired by Mackinac throughout history. As one of the region’s most diverse art museums, it offers a wealth of beauty and history—from intricately beaded Native American garments and 17th and 18th-century Great Lakes maps to unique pieces from Mackinac Island’s Victorian era. Original photographs from the mid-19th to mid-20th century showcase Mackinac’s beauty through the lens of the camera. Featured are works by William H. Gardiner, including many of his renowned early-twentieth-century hand-tinted views. #thisismackinac

Biddle House - A Period of Transformation. Enter the home of Agatha and Edward Biddle, merchants who settled here around 1830. This era was pivotal for the Biddles, especially for Agatha, an Anishnaabek woman, as she and other indigenous people faced significant cultural changes. The 1830s linked traditional ways with Michigan’s modern indigenous culture.
The ongoing story of the Anishnaabek in northern Michigan is complex, marked by victories and defeats, promises kept and broken, and cultures suppressed and revived. Importantly, the Biddle family’s story is one that continues today. This new exhibit, developed with tribal partners, explores this narrative and its ongoing impact on Mackinac Island and throughout northern Michigan. #thisismackinac
