- St. George’s Church - The driver will meet the group at the specified location and guide them on an unforgettable journey. The route involves a 40-minute drive covering about 32 kilometers towards the charming city of Madaba, known as “the city of Mosaics” and home to the world’s largest collection of ancient mosaics. The main attraction in Madaba is the Madaba Map in St. George’s Church, which is the oldest map of Palestine and the Holy Land, offering numerous historical insights into the region during the 6th Century.
- Madaba Archaeological Park - Visitors can explore Madaba Archaeological Park, located in the lively city of Madaba, Jordan. This fascinating site offers a journey through centuries of history, featuring significant archaeological remains, including beautifully preserved mosaics, remnants of ancient structures, and artifacts from various historical periods. Highlights include the Church of the Virgin Mary and the Hippolytus Hall, both adorned with intricate mosaic floors depicting religious and mythological themes. The park provides a glimpse into the artistic achievements of the past and stands as a testament to Madaba’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
- Church of the Apostles - The Apostles Church, situated in the historic city of Madaba, Jordan, is a remarkable 6th-century Byzantine church. It is renowned for its exquisite mosaics, with the most famous being the stunning floor mosaic known as the “Personification of the Sea,” which beautifully depicts marine scenes and mythological figures. This church offers insight into the rich artistic and religious heritage of the Byzantine era, making it a significant cultural and historical site for those exploring the ancient city’s vibrant past.
- Madaba Archaeological Museum - The Madaba Museum, located in the heart of Madaba, Jordan, showcases an impressive collection of artifacts that trace the city’s long and diverse history. The museum houses a variety of items, including mosaics, ceramics, and ancient inscriptions, reflecting the cultural and historical significance of the region. Visitors can explore Madaba’s rich heritage, from its prehistoric roots to its prominence during the Byzantine and Islamic periods, offering a comprehensive insight into the area’s archaeological and cultural legacy.
- Mount Nebo - After completing the tour in Madaba, the group will embark on a 20-minute drive to reach Mt. Nebo, where Moses first saw the Promised Land. From here, enjoy a panoramic view of the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Jericho, and the hills of Judea. On clear days, the distant spires and domes of the Mount of Olives are visible. The visit includes a contemporary church, reconstructed into a basilica, displaying mosaics from successive pilgrimage churches. This basilica, still standing on Mount Nebo today, boasts well-preserved Byzantine mosaics depicting wildlife and hunting scenes. The site offers both historical significance and breathtaking views of the Holy Land and the Jordan River Valley.
- The Baptism Site Of Jesus Christ - Descend to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on the earth’s surface, with a 40-minute drive to reach the Baptism Site. Tour the newly-excavated Maqdas Baptismal Site. Biblical archaeologists, using clues from the Madaba mosaic map, believe this to be the location where John the Baptist lived and worked, and where Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River. The extensive water channels, cisterns, and baptismal fonts, along with the impressive size of the early (3rd-4th Century) pilgrimage churches on this site, suggest this is where the earliest Christian pilgrims believed the Baptism took place. The walk past “Elijah’s well” to the St. John church on the banks of the Jordan is a pleasure, following the winding trail through marshes of high reeds and tamarisk trees. After experiencing these holy sights and enjoying the panoramic views, the group will reconvene with the driver for an hour return to Amman, concluding with a hotel drop-off.
