- Palacio Nacional de Mafra - Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019, the National Palace of Mafra is Portugal’s most significant Baroque landmark. The Royal Palace and convent complex features a 232-meter gallery — the longest palatial corridor in Europe — a stunning library regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful, two historic carillons with 98 bells, and six distinctive Basilica organs.
With approximately 1,200 rooms and grand architecture financed by Brazilian gold, Mafra serves as a powerful emblem of royal authority and artistic ambition.
- Aldeia Museu Jose Franco - The José Franco Village Museum, also known as Saloia Village, Cork Oak Typical Village, or José Franco Typical Village, is one of the most renowned musealized villages in the country. To understand the story of this village, one must go back to 1920, the birth year of potter José Franco. The son of a shoemaker and a door-to-door cookware saleswoman (and at fairs when business was slow), José Franco was familiar with the potter’s trade from a young age. At that time, the Cork Oak was a significant pottery center, and it was common for locals to learn the craft and make a profession of it. Franco learned the trade from two local pottery masters before starting his own work at age 17. In the early 1960s, José Franco began to realize an old dream, to recreate a village with ethnographic character, reflecting the lifestyle of local people. It was a tribute to his homeland.
