It was a pleasure they... - It was a pleasure they showed us around for a little and told us about the history of the island. Would definitely recommend 👌

Fun excursion outside of the port - Our family of 6, ranging from 6-73, took this excursion while in port on a Carnival cruise. Not that you must walk a fair distance to get to the pick up site, so when you see the buses for Carnival excursions, just know that’s not for you. You must keep walking until completely out of the gate at the port, where there is a highway, then turn left to the line of shuttles waiting to pick up.
Our driver drove us around town and showed us the village outside of the confines of the port as well as stopped at a couple of sports along the way.
Upon reaching the buggies we were offered to have photos/video made (for a fee) but we declined. They supplied the helmets and had goggles and handkerchiefs available for rent but we did not use them (I’d at least suggest using some sunglasses though as it can be dusty). There are also lockers available for use of your belongings.
We had an awesome time riding through the hills and stopping at the beach. The buggies are easy to drive and we all had a fun time. I did get some mosquitoes bites, so you might want to use repellent if that’s a concern for you. We got back to the port in plenty of time. We would definitely do this again.

Great dirt buggy experience for the whole family! - Our family did the dirt buggies and it was amazing! All the workers were friendly and very helpful! The pictures and videos we purchased turned out wonderful. The overall experience was great for the price. The excursions offered through the cruise line were 3X more expensive. We were happy with our decision.

Dune buggy in the DR - We had a fabulous dune buggy tour in Puerto Plata! You will get wet so be prepared but it is a great little adventure and you will make a couple of stops to learn some great information about this area of the D.R. I would recommend this as it was a lot of fun and a great value. The tour guides were great and we saw some really cool sites!

Solo traveler ( Cruiser) you will like this experience! - So, this was my first time at Amber Cove and you have far walk to this meet up. I recommend having the Biker take you down the pier. Then you have to walk to the exit of the pier another 5-7 mins. Then you walk outside the pier gates, i believe they are yellow gates and then turn to the left and the guys are there on the side of the freeway. ( that sounds wild to say, but yes you meet on the side of the freeway) they were so accommodating to me and I met some fellow shipmates that joined the excursion with me. There are lockers to lock your things up( i do recommend bringing cash with you) I asked the guys if there was someone who would drive for me, they were so helpful and kind! We went fast through the mud and water! So fun! And we did a tour in the community we tried mamajuana.( IMO it was good!) then we went to the beach there was music and people selling food and drinks ( alcohol too) and we got our stuff and headed back to the port. There was a young man taking photos and videos for us and that came with an extra charge but it’s worth it!
My service and experience was great and I would do it again with my family for a family trip. As a solo cruise traveler , this experience you should do if you like adventure and are open to having a good time.

Lay of the Land - The tour was good; we were the only couple on the tour. Be aware that you have to pay $10 for helmet rental and $5 for a bandana. These are not included and are needed. The buggy pedal was hard and sticky to drive, and the machine was old. Pictures is offer from $45 and up. Bring money when you visit the local shop.

Not a dune buggy experience, kids were not impressed - Less of a dune buggy experience, more of a take these people to different stops to buy the same things experience. Our taxi driver, Carlos, was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our dune buggy guide tho didn’t speak ANY English, didn’t greet us or even act like we were there. He was constantly on his cell phone the entire tour, unless he was fixing our dune buggy that kept breaking down. The dune buggy’s are terribly worn down and extremely hard to drive. They did not feel safe at all. You take them on the highway which was crazy, through 5 puddles and by the beach and after your ‘shopping’ stops, it’s over. The kids were disappointed and that made us disappointed. I wouldn’t book this tour again even if it was free! Also, the pickup directions were wrong, there was NO sign that said super buggy and we would have never found our guide if it hadn’t been for a friendly taxi driver who spoke English and Spanish.

The worst experience - This was the worst buggy experience we ever had in puerto plata. Their buggies are all run down and inoperable. We were stuck in the jungle for over 45 minutes waiting for replacement buggies which finally arrived and were not in better shape. The initial ones, we were told were dangerous to drive as the battery broke and we were going into water. Most of the tour was waiting for buggy replacement, we couldn't wait to get back as we felt unsafe. We contacted this company that was responsible for booking with this buggy company and nothing was done. The driver Carlos Daniel was very nice but had no power to do anything to help us.
