• Castello San Giorgio (Mantua) - The castle’s most prized treasures are hidden within, such as the Camera Picta (The Bridal Chamber). This room was transformed into a masterpiece by Andrea Mantegna, a prominent Renaissance painter. The breathtaking frescoes create the illusion of an open portico with views of the picturesque countryside.
• Piazza Sordello - Piazza Sordello is a spacious square surrounded by some of the city’s most significant historic buildings, including the Ducal Palace, the cathedral, and the Bishop’s seat.
• Piazza Broletto - This was the medieval political square where communal palaces were constructed, such as the old town hall and the Massaro’s seat. Beneath the large arch, visitors can see the four iron rings once used for torture.
• Piazza delle Erbe - Flanked by the rear facade of the medieval town hall to the north and the Palazzo di Giustizia (courthouse) to the east, this square, named after the medieval fruit and vegetable market, is also dominated by a 15th-century astrolabe and the Romanesque church of Saint Laurence.
• Basilica di Sant’Andrea di Mantova - Designed by Leon Battista Alberti, it stands as one of the major works of 15th-century Renaissance architecture in Northern Italy. The façade, composed of classical architectural elements, conceals a single nave with barrel vaulting and walls painted in trompe-l’oeil. The first chapel on the left houses the tomb of Andrea Mantegna.
