Fun and relaxing trip - Simon is a great tour guide! There was a good selection of wineries to visit, plus a great lunch and some sneaky chocolate! Great people on the tour as well, we had a lot of fun together. It's so nice to just be driven around and having all the 'thinking' taken out

A good day out - It would have been good if the driver/guide had a microphone as it was difficult to hear. Tastings at the Grove and brookland were very good however tastings at Knotting hill was very rushed. Difficult to know which wine we were tasting. Lunch was excellent. All in all a good day out

Our experience - Make sure you have breakfast beforehand as it's a long day. The first vineyard was Jarvis estate, this was fantastic, wines were incredible, the somelia was amazing, so entertaining, easy to talk to. 10/10 The next place we had a couple of potent cocktails. The second vineyard knottinghill we felt rushed, the description given for each wine was just the same. 10/10 for our guide who was a character lol he was interesting to talk to he interacted with everyone and was knowledgeable. His playlist was epic. It's a long day, we were shattered afterward

Average tour - Main cons of the wine testing: We were unlucky that pick up location of other passengers were over an hour away from Margaret river, we were picked up first, and therefore had to spend 2 hours on the shuttle bus before we started the wine tasting. Lunch unfortunately was not as described (doesn’t have salad or fries) Only one of the wineries (visited 3) was actually nice and knowledgeable.

Not impressed - First cellar door stop we were there at wrong time so double booked. Bus was unclean aircon smelt. Driver hardly interacted with us. Drive was uncomfortable and one passenger was car sick. Nothing to help with her or to clean up. Overall not a good experience.

Very Average - Tour guide very low energy/ unapproachable and gave limited notice of times at venues. The tastings were very dragged out and there was no option to get a drink of choice at winery’s. Lunch was not good, pizza only with limited toppings & for the price of the tour was disappointing.

Unreliable - Tour was cancelled abruptly with only 2 days noticed after being booked weeks in advance due to other visitors cancelling their tour. Very disappointing customer service + nightmare as I had booked this trip for my parents who are visiting from the UK and are only down in Margaret river for one day. Still awaiting refund but hopefully this will come through soon. I wouldn’t recommend booking with this service if you want reliable !

Terrible experience - Terrible experience; two people left behind the driver went back and all tour was delayed. No comments provided for the wine testing or presentation of locations to be visited. The microphone was not working so only few people in the front understood the driver's instructions. I give one star for the driving skills. The worst wine testing I ever done.

Rip Off - I booked 4 tickets on Margies Big Day Out Beer and Wine Tours for August 23rd 2024 and I would just like to say how disappointing this tour was for our entire group. In fact I think the advertising for the tour was quite deceptive. Firstly I want to make clear that the tour guide, Simon, was great and the other tour participants also very good company. Our complaint is that the tour did not deliver what it advertised. We came to Margaret River to experience some of the excellent wineries it is famous for and this is what we thought we were purchasing on this trip. We understood we had booked a Margaret River Beer and Wine tour and were astounded to find ourselves on the road back to Busselton (where we had already spent the previous 6 days), because the company were experiencing difficulties with available busses and drivers. If the company did not have the appropriate personnel then they shouldn’t have accepted bookings! So we had a 50km drive before the day started and again at the end of the day. I’m not sure whether it was because of these difficulties, but we were then taken to an experimental wine maker where the wine was less than acceptable- surely in such a famous wine growing area something better could have been offered. The next winery was quite good and lots of interesting information about organic wine growing imparted. The last winery was more mainstream but overpriced and uninspiring. We had lunch at a brewery which was either a hamburger or fish and chips but came without even a complementary drink. We may have visited this brewery but there were no tastings- so to say it was a beer and wine tour was a bit of an over reach. The promised beer and cider tasting did not happen. We arrived at the last stop, the second brewery to simply purchase a drink and chat to fellow travellers- once again purchase your own drinks (at least this time the brochure had clearly stated this would be the case). The brochure for the trip clearly states: tastings of food, wine, beer and cider. It even says “Lunch at Bootleg Brewery along with a beer and cider tasting” Well the only food tasting was the free chocolate buds as you walked into the chocolate factory (available to ALL visitors) and there was NO beer and cider tasting anywhere. Our stops at wineries were also shortened by the travel time to pick up guests outside Dunsborough. We have travelled extensively in Australia and overseas and feel this trip, in a beat up old bus, was overpriced and deceptive in its advertising. In total the 4 of us paid $640 for this tour and we feel totally ripped off! Karen
