Day trip to Guatepe and Pablo’s - Adrian was a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide. She shared a lot about the history of Medellín and answered any questions people had. She kept the energy throughout the long day which was appreciated. We stopped at a farm with llamas and goats too which was a nice little surprise as I didn’t see this in the original itinerary! Was fun to just see them roaming around amongst people. Highly recommend this tour and Adrian as your guide. Thank you Adrian and Zas for taking us around and sharing your beautiful city with us.

Book with this company - This tour was an absolute blast. César (guide) & Jorge (driver) were both very professional and courteous. César did a great job running the tour. At La Manuela, I might not recommend renting vehicles as it is not a far walk to the sites (but it is fun anyway). I also liked that no one on my tour was taking selfies at this site, especially as it is part of the tumultuous past of Colombia. Guatapé was an unexpected gem, and I loved my time at La Piedra de Peñol. Definitely hike to the top if you are able bodied. It’s not scary at all; just a lot of stairs. There are plenty of bathroom and coffee opportunities on this day trip too. I would highly recommend this trip and had an absolute blast.

Fantastic Guatapé experience with excellent guides - Overall, this was a very enjoyable day trip and well organised from start to finish. The highlight for us was definitely Guatapé and climbing the rock the views are absolutely worth it and a great experience. The food provided was also excellent and exceeded expectations. A special mention to our tour guide Adriana and our driver Zeta, who were both fantastic and really added to the experience. The only downside was the visit to Pablo Escobar’s island. We paid extra to hire two buggies, but it felt a bit underwhelming and not great value for money. That said, the rest of the tour more than made up for it and we would still recommend it.

A natural gem that deserves more respect - Visiting Piedra del Peñol is certainly something magical. This natural formation is imposing, almost spiritual, and has a presence that overwhelms from the first moment. However, the experience is deeply affected by the way the place has been commercially exploited. Access to climb the stone costs $35,000 per person, and even the use of the bathrooms is charged, which already generates some discomfort. But beyond the cost, what really disappoints is the immediate environment. At the foot of a natural wonder of this magnitude, a messy and visually aggressive shopping area has developed, which completely breaks with the magic of the place. Instead of integrating with the landscape or respecting the local identity, an improvised aesthetic has been chosen that does not do justice to the beauty of the region. It’s especially sad considering that Paisa (antioquian) architecture is rich, warm and full of character. Here was a unique opportunity to create something harmonious, authentic and respectful... and it was lost. The stone is still extraordinary. But the experience, unfortunately, is marked by a sense of neglect and lack of sensitivity to a place that deserves much more respect.
