Located in Maros-Pangkep, within the karst mountain range (limestone), is a place named Rammang-Rammang. The site resides in the Salenrang village, District Bontoa, Maros, in the province of South Sulawesi. It’s positioned approximately 40 km north of Makassar and is a short car trip from the city, taking less than two hours. It’s conveniently situated a few meters from the inter-provincial highway. The term ‘Rammang-Rammang’ originates from the Makassar dialect, and rammang means ‘cloud’ or ‘mist’. Hence, Rammang-Rammang symbolizes a collection of clouds or fog. The local belief justifying this name relates to the persistent presence of clouds or fog in the area, especially in the morning or during rainfall.
