Marrakech – Tizi-n-Tichka Mountain Pass – Ouarzazatte – Zagora

Zagora - The journey begins at 8 AM from the hotel or riad, ascending the High Atlas mountains via the Tizi N-Tichka pass to reach the Pasha Glaoui Telouet Kasbah. The route continues to Ait Ben Haddou, traversing an ancient caravan trail and the Ounila valley, surrounded by Berber villages. After passing through Ouarzazate, a delicious lunch awaits. The journey proceeds south over the Tizi-n-Tinfifte pass to Agdez. As the descent begins, the breathtaking view of the expansive oasis and numerous palm trees signals the start of the Dra’a Valley, home to thousands of date palms producing 25 varieties of high-quality dates. The date harvest occurs from September and lasts a few months, making it the ideal time to visit Agdez for the freshest dates. The journey continues through the Draa Valley, palm trees, and Ksours, arriving in Zagora by day’s end for dinner and an overnight stay at a Riad.

Agdz - Nestled in the Draa Valley, Agdz Palm Grove appears as a lush green gem amidst the vast Moroccan desert. The sight of towering palm trees against the golden sands creates a captivating contrast, embodying tranquility and natural beauty.

Zagora - Tamagrout - Mhamid - Erg Chegaga

Erg Chigaga - The departure begins after breakfast, heading to Tamgroute to visit the Zaouia, the ancient Koranic library, pottery makers, and an underground Kasbah. The journey continues to M’hamid, the gateway to the desert and the end of the paved road. A barbecue lunch is enjoyed in an oasis. The route proceeds to the Erg Chegaga dunes (300m) with 60km of off-road driving, showcasing various desert features: ‘erg’ (dunes), ‘hammada’ (stony desert), and oases. These remote dunes offer a profound sense of solitude and vastness. A camel ride around the sand dunes, lasting about an hour, is available. Dinner and an overnight stay at Desert camps include a private tent, comfortable beds, exquisite Moroccan furniture, and candlelight to enhance the experience of the silence and beauty.

Following the old “Rally Paris Dakar” track, the route leads to Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert, where the paved road resumes, and a picnic lunch is enjoyed in an Oasis. The journey continues to Ouarzazate via Taznakht town, passing through the village of Amerzgan. The 3-day Sahara Desert tour to Erg Chigaga from Marrakech concludes at 5 PM, crossing Tizi-N-Tichka on the return journey.
