The Most Special Experience - Simply the most beautiful 4 hours that we spent in Morocco. We went as a family - 2 adults and 2 kids - and the teachers were so amazing and patient with the kids fully involving them in everything, explaining every flavour and process! The work done by this organisation should be shared widely, they are a remarkable community that is doing something special in Marrakech.

Great class for a great cause - My partner and I visited Marakech during our recent trip to Morocco. We found the Amal center cooking classes while doing research, and were not disappointed! The non-profit does amazing work helping disadvantaged women learn the skills they need to be professional chefs. They offer cooking classes in their beautiful training center, and we made a vegetable tagine and handmade bread. The ingredients were fresh, and the instructions were clear. We were treated to a tea ceremony, and then enjoyed the food we cooked! We also got to learn more about the center’s work with disadvantaged women, the deaf community, and residents of the Atlas Mountains whose homes were destroyed in an earthquake.
I would highly recommend taking their classes.

A wonderful experience with country and people - The cooking class was one of my best experiences in Morocco! Lovingly provided ingredients, everyone could cook a dish of their choice, I made a pastilla! Even the premises are a pleasure! The guidance from the Moroccan women was professional and at the same time very personal! During the cooking time there was a very atmospheric tea ceremony. Every step was celebrated! We have harvested the herbs ourselves in the project's own garden. This was accompanied by Moroccan pastries, which are being created in the project. The initiative supports -extremely successfully- women from difficult backgrounds who find women after 4-6 months as a rule. Work or can start your own business! What a hopeful prospect. The explanations of the project impress! There is also a strong commitment to earthquake victims, whose products are traded fairly!
We ate our different dishes together at the end! The different tajine, couscous and pastilla were the best thing I ate in Morocco. The participating people from different countries have quickly become a nice community with lively exchanges! You can also “only” go there for dinner! Surely a nice experience too!
A big thank you to all the women of Amal! I would recommend everyone who is in Marrakesh to visit this project!

Just Right - This was a great experience and a great introduction to Moroccan cooking. The class was well organized. The kitchen was set up nicely for a class. The staff provided just the right amount of help to make sure our dish came out nicely. These are great people and a great organization. It feels good to support their mission by taking the class. We also met a great group of fellow students. And of course the grand finale, lunch with the gang having the food we had just cooked. It was very nice.

Amal Cooking A MUST DO in Marrakech! - We adored our experience at Amal. Ghita and all of the team were so welcoming. The class itself was fun, relaxed, inclusive, informative but most of all delicious!! We met some nice people and learned many important things about the Moroccan culture and the purpose of the Amal Centre. The women here are truly worth supporting. You are literally helping to change lives by doing this brilliant class!

A must do in Marrakesh - A wonderful 1/2 day spent at Amal. Not only do you get to cook a tasty meal but they put on a tea ceremony and the ladies are very welcoming. You get to know the history of the organisation and the great things they are doing in the region.
Would totally recommend.

A Unique Experience of both Culture and Cuisine - Wow! What an amazing experience.
On our first trip to Morocco we made this cooking lesson part of getting better insights into the "real" food of the land. But we left with far more than that.
The cooking part of the experience was very well organized and very much hands-on. From prep through actually stoking the fires, we very much cooking these dishes, under the firm but friendly guidance of our instructor. Depending on the dish, the process took a bit longer, as it did with one of our dishes (Chicken Pastilla) and another family's (Vegetarian Couscous). But the cooking was only one aspect of the total experience.
We also learned about the intricacies of making Moroccan Tea, the history and mission of AMAL, the culture of cuisine in Morocco, and also met a really diverse group of other participants from Canada, the UK, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia. As we sat down at the end to break bread and eat our creations, these strangers all became part of our little family for one brief afternoon.
So Yes, go there for the cooking lessons. But be prepared for a far richer experience than just that. You will leave this special place feeling fulfilled in more way than one.

Wonderful cooking experience with social meaning for the community - It was a wonderful experience to learn how to cook maroccan dishes. And the association is doing a great job for the community. It's really important to support them. Too bad we have to choose a single dish instead of cooking a salad and a main dish. And a big table for all the group together, to share all the food, would have been appreciated. But we highly recommend the activity.

Not a "cooking class" -sadly wouldnt recommend but do visit their restuarant in Gueliz to support their mission. - Sadly would not recommend. Great mission and do support them at their restaurant in Gueliz but I cannot recommend the cooking class... It has such good reviews but our experience was a total waste of time... only cooked for 30 minutes. It started 45 minutes late (no explanation) went late by 1.5+ hrs, and had a very long gap of over 1 hr while the tagines cooked that we all just sat around and no instruction. Again zero explanation.... (had they suggested to bring a book and enjoy the courtyard, we would have been happy to do so). Yes our tagine was good but no sides or anything to go with it. Staff was very unorganized and although the girls were nice, they were very disruptive amongst themselves when the instructor was speaking -- many many times......... Bummer! wanted to love this experience but wouldnt recommend this class.
