Its medina (old town) is safeguarded by 18th-century seafront ramparts known as the Skala de la Kasbah, designed by European engineers. The walls are lined with old brass cannons, offering ocean views. The strong “Alizée” trade winds make the city’s crescent beach a favorite spot for surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing.

Meet your driver at your hotel in Marrakech, or at a central location, for the trip to Essaouira, a laid-back city that’s cooled by sea breezes. On your way to Essaouira, make a stop at an Argan oil cooperative, learning how the golden oil is produced using traditional techniques. Upon arrival in Essaouira, set out on a short guided walking tour to get your bearings in the UNESCO-listed historic center, which is ringed by fortifications with great views of the ocean.

Then enjoy free time to see and do what you want. You can sip mint tea in the Moulay el Hassan square, browse for souvenirs at the bazaars, or try freshly caught, local seafood at an open-air restaurant. Rejoin the driver and group after an afternoon of exploration and begin the return trip to Marrakech, where the day concludes with drop-off at your original departure point.
