Bustling - It is the most famous square in Marrakech.One square by day and another totally different by night. Unfortunately it still looks charming snakes and monkeys.

'The heart of Marrakech....' - The beating heart of Marrakech, always alive and always different at any time of day or night. It should be turned slowly, enjoying every corner, and at the end it is better to climb on the terrace of one of the cafes to continue admiring it from above in tranquility.

Worth the experience if a bit on the tacky side. - When in Marrakech you can either avoid the square altogether or just dive in and imbibe what it has. To not see and take in the sounds and smells would be a miss of an opportunity. Sure, it's a little tacky and I'm not sure I feel comfortable seeing monkeys tethered, and wearing Real Madrid tops, and deranged cobras, etc. the food and drink isn't all cracked up to be, though on a hot evening it is hard to resist the overly sweet fruit juices. Walking around the square at night is an experience not to be missed, the Berber dancing and musical accompaniment maybe a bit of a tourist trap and the adjoining cafes and restaurants may be so-so. But do go along just for the experience. Besides, the wonderful Koutoubia is close by, which offers a little more respite.

Busy busy busy - Visited the bustling large market and souks with my partner, firstly, you’re going to see things that can be upsetting, the monkeys on chains and in small cages is not a pretty sight, walk past and don’t look, snake charmers, horses and their carriages all stood in long lines, once past all that, what a place to see, learn to say no thank you 99% of the time to everyone, once you want to buy something whatever price they start go lower than 50% of that price, I bought a smallish rug for 350 dirhams when he wanted 1100 for it, stay to the well worn paths with people on it, it’s so easy to get lost and then you’re gonna take ages to get back inside, great little eating places dotted around the main market, taglines, sandwiches, kebab all decent prices too, go with an open mind, and you’ll have a great experience

Sniff the couleur locale, but at a distance - You must have tasted the atmosphere there. Sit on a high terrace and watch your eyes. Furthermore, you better stay away from the marchers in the square. Very aggressive sellers and especially the ladies with henna are to be avoided. These are very assertive and do not fail to grab your hand and quickly draw lines after which they ask you for money. 1 woman with 1 blind eye is very unpleasant and intrusive. So stay away from that.

Rush and business - Business business, too much moped noise in the medina. I have to say, it was time for the ftour... definitely not for us. A tourist place where you can eat not so cheap because the dishes are served in saucers. 10 dirhams a fries, for example. It's one euro. Same for other dishes minimalist version wholesale 14 euros to 2 in speed and smoke bof! Recount the bill they are so supercharged..😅

Overrated place! - An unbearable and terrible place. The square itself is indeed just a big ugly place without charm and beauty. A lot of indifferent stuff, often in a poor quality sold here for overpriced. In my opinion, there is nothing special about the food stalls in the evening, I would rather eat at one of the right restaurants.

Experience to try - I wanted to try one of the banquets with typical food, it inspired me and I was curious. Let's say I didn't eat everything because I was a little scared especially for hygiene. Anyway I would say it is an experience to try, but be careful about the amount of dish they continue to bring because they are cheap but they do on purpose to bring so much stuff to make you spend... in fact in the end in two 300 MAD.

CONTINUOUS SCAMS at food stands - Do not stop to eat at the stalls set up in the square. In our case it was the 17th, but reading other reviews I would say that they all operate in the same crooked manner. The classic scheme involves inviting you nicely, but insistently to sit down, and then charging you a disproportionate amount (450 dh for 2 people, for a few skewers and two vegetables), based on unordered dishes and a confusing menu. Within 20 minutes we have seen multiple scams, all the same, while the handful of grilled thieves sing waka waka. I hope to avoid the unpleasant experience for someone.

The place of horrors! Run away! - A shame to find again in 2025 people who abuse animals for the pleasure of tourists ( monkeys , snakes and horses are exploited and beaten if they do not obey ) how can tourists still want to take pictures and finance this shameful trade????!!!! I'm not even talking about the smells and dirt in this square and its surroundings.
