Short vacation to stamp the passport - We stayed in Marrakech at my wife's cousin because she works there. My eldest son had a week off school so we booked flights for around 5 days in Morocco. We came from Ireland but had Philippine passports so there was no need of a visa(please check with immigration if you need one). Before going we asked my wife's cousin if she knew some tour packages and she gave her friends number. His name is Aimad and his number is +212602-461490 and we contacted him thru what's app. Friendly guy and pretty straightforward. I asked him if I could use his info to which he happily agreed only if I share the review I'm going to make.
The tour is 3 days and 2 nights. I was not able to get the name of the tour company but we had a blast. When you confirm your booking, a guy will contact you and pick you up on the first day, you hand him the cash(yes, cash only) and he will bring you to their office/place of business where you will join 8-15 people in a big van. I will post the itinerary here once I get the chance.
First day will be a visit to Ait Benhadou, a famous filming site for movies such as the first Gladiator(Russell Crowe) and Prince of Persia(Jake Gyllenhaal). It's a steep climb so be ready with your bottle of water and face towel. Sun glasses and a cap would also help. There is a cafe up top so if you didn't bring any water they will have some there. Good pair of walking shoes or hiking boots as well. Lunch will be after the hike. A guide will be there to tell you all about the place and where to go. You will be with the group so you won't get lost. A small tip would be asked at the end, around 30-50MAD if you're generous.
There will be a few stops on the way there and plenty of chances to buy provisions especially for hydration. Bring enough cash as the places you will go to are high up the mountains and they won't have ATMs nearby. Again, cash is important as some of the food and drinks don't come with the lunch or breakfast.
Depending on how many days you booked the tour for(there were people only for overnight and also for 2 days), you will likely end up in a "backpackers" type of place or a full-on "hotel". My kids enjoyed the long ride but my eldest had a little motion-sickness. He just needed the windows open is all. We were second to the last to be dropped off at our hotel and the driver advised us on what time he was gonna pick us up.
Day 2 is making your way to Merzouga to ride camels for about 2km to your camp site. There is a quick stop at some place where you will be hiking again before lunch. A guide will be there and he will take you to see a field and also a Toudra Gorge where a hotel used to operate. He will likely take you to a place/house where a man sells rugs that is really nice but not cheap(I heard it cost around 7000MAD if I heard correctly.)
Again, the driver will drop people off depending on their booked days. Pickup trucks and cars will take you to the place where you'll meet with a guide and the camels. The guide will teach you how to get on and off and will also help in taking pictures. He will take you to the camp site where you will have dinner and some drum action around a fireplace right after. My kids had so much fun in the desert. We enjoyed the sand dunes and even did some sandboarding. Breakfast will be served in the morning and the car that brought you to the camels will ring you back to the open road where you will meet your van driver. This will now be the long drive back to Marrakech. A few stops will be on the way as well and the driver will drop you off where it is nearest your hotel/airbnb.
Also, the InDrive app will be useful during your stay. Drivers on this app and taxi drivers have beef so be cautious in booking rides.
Overall, we had a blast and would do it again someday. Thanks for reading.

A fabulous tour to Agafay desert Morocco.... unforgettable memories. - Canadian traveler | Language: English
🌄 “It started with engine revs and ended under a sky full of stars…”
That evening in the Agafay desert is etched into my heart like a dream I never want to wake from. We were picked up from our Marrakech riad by Hassan, a warm and cheerful driver who instantly made us feel at ease. The ride was smooth, with Moroccan music playing softly as we left the city chaos behind and drove into the vast, stony landscape of Agafay.
As soon as we arrived, the adrenaline kicked in. The quad bike and camel ride Agafay experience started with the quad bikes — and wow, what a rush! The bikes roared over the rocky terrain, kicking up dust in clouds that caught the light of the late afternoon sun. At times it was bumpy and wild, but that made it even more fun. The desert stretched endlessly ahead, and for a moment, it felt like we were the only people on earth.
Then came the switch to camels — a completely different pace. Youssef, our gentle camel handler, wrapped a turban around my head with a smile, and helped us climb atop the calm, swaying animals. Riding slowly through the golden hills as the sun dipped below the horizon was one of the most surreal and peaceful moments I’ve ever had. Everything slowed down. The light turned soft and honey-colored. The silence of the desert wrapped around us like a warm blanket.
As night fell, we were led to a beautifully decorated camp for the Agafay desert dinner show. There were glowing lanterns, low tables, and thick carpets laid out under a sky bursting with stars. The tajines were rich and fragrant — especially the chicken with preserved lemon. The couscous was perfectly fluffy, and the mint tea? Poured with flair and full of comfort.
Then the music began — hypnotic Gnawa rhythms, the echo of Berber drums, and a fire dancer whose movements lit up the desert night. There was laughter, clapping, and even a moment where we joined in the dancing. It was pure joy. At one point, a storyteller shared a tale in Arabic with such emotion that we didn’t need to understand the words to feel their weight.
Toward the end, I stepped away from the group for a moment and just stood under the stars. The desert air had turned cool, and the fire's glow flickered in the distance. I felt completely present, grounded, and grateful.
This Agafay desert dinner show was the highlight of my Morocco trip. If you're even slightly considering it — go. Just bring a scarf for the dust and a jacket for the night. The desert has a way of surprising you.
