Ouzoud Waterfalls joy trip! - Feeling the cool mist hit my face on the boat ride under the falls was the moment it all clicked — this was nature, raw and alive. We were picked up just after 8am in Marrakech by Hicham, our driver, who welcomed us with the biggest smile and a “Yalla, ready for adventure?” The van was comfy, air-conditioned, and the ride was surprisingly smooth. As we left the city behind, the landscape shifted — olive groves stretched endlessly, Berber villages clung to the hills, and the earth turned a deep rust-red under the Moroccan sun. The first glimpse of Ouzoud Waterfalls from the upper viewpoint was jaw-dropping. Imagine curtains of white water tumbling down 110 meters, framed by lush greenery and cliffs dotted with olive trees. You hear it before you see it — a distant roar that draws you in. Our guide, Karima, led us down the trail. She was kind, funny, and full of stories. We passed little cafés built into the hillside and stalls selling handmade ceramics and argan oil. At one point, a Barbary macaque snuck up behind a couple and made off with a crisp packet — we couldn’t stop laughing! The boat ride under the falls was pure magic. The closer we got, the louder the roar, until we were surrounded by spray and noise and light. I got soaked (note to self: bring a change of shirt!), but it was worth every second. A rainbow shimmered in the mist, and for a moment, it felt like we’d slipped into a dream. Lunch was at a quiet riverside spot. I chose a lamb tajine cooked over a wood fire — the smell alone was divine. We dipped fresh bread into warm sauces and sipped mint tea as birds sang around us. I even dipped my feet in the cool water while we relaxed afterward. The hike back up was a bit steep — wear good shoes and take it slow — but the views were a treat. We arrived back in Marrakech by sunset, watching the sky turn gold and the mountains darken in silhouette. This day trip to Ouzoud Waterfalls offered everything: laughter, beauty, peace, and just enough adventure. I came back feeling sun-kissed, slightly tired, and completely happy. Don’t miss this natural wonder while in Morocco. It’s a refreshing, soul-lifting escape from the city — and a memory I’ll keep close.
