Midway through the trip, there will be a stop at the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a site featured in films like Gladiator and The Kingdom of Heaven. After this brief visit, the journey continues to Ouarzazate, where the impressive Kasbah of Taourirt awaits.
The adventure proceeds along the Thousand Kasbahs Road towards Skoura, arriving at the Roses Valley about 30 minutes before sunset. The day concludes in the Dades Valley, a unique location where the group will enjoy their first night’s stay.
Tizi n Tichka - Tizi n’Tichka is a mountain pass in Morocco, connecting the southeast of Marrakesh to Ouarzazate through the High Atlas mountains. It rises above the vast Marrakesh plains and serves as a gateway to the Sahara Desert.
Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - Aït Benhaddou is a historic site on the longest caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech in modern Morocco. It is a remarkable example of marble bar arch architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
Taourirt Kasbah - Kasbah Taourirt is a historic complex of fortified residences or kasbahs in Ouarzazate, Morocco.
Vallee Des Roses - The Valley of the Roses begins with the round rocks of Imassine, seemingly balanced in a natural setting. From Kelaat Mgouna, leading to the Mgoun River, the valley reveals its full splendor. It is one of the most beautiful valleys in the High Atlas and southern Morocco. Ascending through the palm groves and gardens that make up the Roses Valley is truly enchanting.
Dades Gorges - The Dadès Gorges are a series of wadi gorges carved along the Dadès River in Morocco. The river originates in the High Atlas Mountains and flows approximately 350 kilometers southeast before joining the Draa River near the Sahara.
Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Merzouga
Merzouga Desert - As the first light touches the Dades Gorges, breakfast is served to energize for the journey to the Todgha Valley. Upon arrival, the group will explore the stunning Todra Gorges, taking in the breathtaking panoramic views. The journey then continues to Merzouga via the Jorf Palm Tree, renowned for producing the country’s finest dates. A traditional Moroccan meal will be enjoyed during a relaxing break.
The adventure proceeds to the Merzouga Desert, where the group will switch to camels to travel into the desert camp for the night. Once settled, the tranquility of the desert night will be embraced, accompanied by an authentic Moroccan dinner under the stars at Erg Chebbi. This will be one of the most memorable experiences of the trip!
Todgha Gorge - The Todgha Gorges are a series of limestone river canyons, or wadi, in the eastern part of the High Atlas mountains in Morocco, near Tinerhir. Both the Todgha and neighboring Dadès Rivers have carved these deep gorges through the mountains over the last 40 kilometers.
Merzouga - Merzouga is a small Moroccan town in the Sahara Desert, near the Algerian border. It is known as the gateway to Erg Chebbi, a vast expanse of sand dunes north of the town. To the west of Merzouga, Dayet Srji is a seasonal salt lake that often dries up in summer. When filled, it attracts a variety of migratory birds, including desert sparrows, Egyptian nightjars, and occasionally flamingos.
Erg Chebbi Dunes - Erg Chebbi is one of several ergs in Morocco: large seas of dunes formed by wind-blown sand. Other ergs include Erg Chigaga near M’hamid. Technically, these ergs are located within a semi-arid region and are not part of the Sahara Desert, which lies a short distance to the south.
Day 3: Rissani - Ziz Valley - Middle Atlas - Fez
Fes - The day begins with a magical sunrise over the Sahara dunes, an unforgettable natural spectacle. Afterward, the group returns to camp for a hearty Berber breakfast and a refreshing shower.
Following breakfast and a shower, a gentle dromedary ride will take the group back to the meeting point, where their vehicle awaits.
Once ready, the journey to Fez begins, passing through Erfoud and Rissani, the birthplace of the Alawite dynasty, and crossing the stunning Ziz Valley.
A special stop will be made in the Azrou Cedar Forest to admire and feed the friendly Barbary macaques in their natural habitat.
The group will arrive in Fez around 6:00 pm, concluding this incredible journey filled with desert memories.
Azrou Cedar Forest - The Azrou Cedar Forest is a source of national pride. Moroccan cedars, some over 400 years old, reach heights of nearly 200 feet and cover approximately 320,000 acres on the slopes of the Middle Atlas. Living among these majestic cedars are troops of bold Barbary macaques and a variety of birdlife, including the red-headed Moroccan woodpecker, owls, and eagles.
