Day 1: Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley
Tizi n Tichka - The 4-day desert journey from Marrakech to the Merzouga Sahara Desert begins early in the morning. The drive heads east of Marrakech, passing through small suburban towns towards the High Atlas Mountains. There will be several stops to capture photos, enjoy the views, stretch, and have a coffee.
Travel uphill on winding roads to the renowned Tizi Ntichka pass before reaching Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou.
Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - This is the first significant stop for sightseeing. The Berber fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has been a backdrop for major Hollywood films, including “Kingdom of Heaven,” “Lawrence of Arabia,” and “Gladiator.” Cross the river that separates the Kasbah from the main road and explore the village at your leisure. Local guides are available if desired.
Vallee Des Roses - After a leisurely lunch at a local café, continue to Dades Valley, passing through Ouarzazate, Skoura Oasis, and Klaa Mgouna, the capital of the Valley of the Roses, known for its rose water distillation factories.
Boumalne Dades - Upon reaching Boumalne Dades, follow the Dades River on a narrow road, passing various fortified Kasbahs along the way to Dades Valley. Arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at your Dades hotel.
Day 2: Dades Valley - Tinghir - Todra Gorge - Erfoud - Merzouga
Gargantas del Todra - After breakfast at your hotel in Dades Valley, the journey continues along the road of 1001 Kasbahs to the oasis of Tighir. From there, take a minor road along the river to Todgha, where you can enjoy a walk in the oasis under the palm trees and continue to Todgha Gorges.
Merzouga Desert - Upon reaching Merzouga, pack some essentials in a small bag for the night in the desert. Meet the camel caravan and ride through the stunning, color-changing sand dunes with the sunset as a backdrop. Arrive at the Sahara desert camp before nightfall.
After admiring the sand dunes and landscapes, enjoy a Moroccan dinner under the stars by the campfire. Late at night, local nomad hosts will entertain you with their drumming.
Day 3: Merzouga - Rissani - Alnif - Tizi N’Tfrkhin - Ouarzazate
El Kelaa M’gouna - At lunchtime, stop at Klaat M’Gouna for a meal and rest before continuing the journey.
Ouarzazate - Continue the route through the Skoura oasis palm and ancient kasbahs towards Ouarzazate, the cinema capital, to spend the night in a hotel or riad.
Day 4: Ouarzazate - Atlas Mountains - Marrakech
Taourirt Kasbah - After a delightful breakfast, take time to explore Ouarzazate at your own pace. A visit to the Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Film Studios, known as the Hollywood of the desert, is recommended.
Return to Marrakech in the early afternoon.
Atlas Mountains View - Take a break and use the facilities if needed before arriving in Marrakech to conclude the trip.
