Materuni is the residence of the Chagga tribe and remains a genuine tribal village. This delightful location is situated just 15km from Moshi Town and serves as the final village before reaching Kilimanjaro National Park.

Guests will be collected in Moshi or Arusha in the morning by an English-speaking guide, who will transport them to Materuni Village. Upon arrival, registration at the village office is required before the adventure begins.

The first stop is the waterfalls, approximately a 40-minute walk away. During the journey, the guide will share insights about Chagga culture, village life, and the local flora and fauna.

The scenery is absolutely stunning, and with some luck, the summit of Kilimanjaro may be visible. Upon reaching the waterfalls, visitors will find them to be over 80 meters tall. The pool at the base of the waterfall offers a perfect spot for a refreshing swim, so be sure to bring swimwear!

After enjoying the picturesque views, guests will leisurely return with the guide to Materuni village, where a traditional Chagga lunch awaits. There is also an opportunity to sample the local banana beer – a must-try experience!

But the adventure doesn’t end there. Next is the coffee experience, where visitors will learn about the cultivation, drying, roasting, and processing of coffee.

Participants will also be invited to assist in grinding the coffee, an activity traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances – a delightful way to engage with the local culture.

Before departing and returning in the afternoon to Moshi or Arusha, guests can enjoy the coffee they helped create and take in the views of the surrounding rainforest. Departures can also be arranged from other locations.
