As you descend, enjoy the expansive scenic views of Kula and the Pacific Ocean before heading to breakfast at the beloved local spot, Cafe O’Lei at the Plantation in Waikapu.

- Haleakala is known for rapidly changing weather conditions and dense clouds and rain are common. As a result, clear viewing of the sunrise is not guaranteed, and the tour operates rain or shine. Refunds will be granted only when the tour is cancelled for safety reasons.
- The high altitude at the summit area may complicate health conditions and breathing difficulties. Elderly visitors, pregnant women, young children, and those with respiratory or heart conditions should consult their doctor prior to touring. Walk slowly and drink water to avoid dehydration. If you have gone scuba diving, you should wait at least 72 hours before going on this tour.

6/5 Stars – Life-Changing Haleakalā Sunrise with Polynesian Adventures (Thank You, Preston!) - We recently took the Polynesian Adventures sunrise tour to Haleakalā, and it instantly became one of the absolute highlights of our entire Maui trip — honestly, one of the best guided experiences we’ve ever had anywhere.
The sunrise itself was spectacular. Bundled in warm blankets with hot coffee and cocoa , we watched the sky light up in vivid colors over the massive crater. It was pure magic and worth every bit of the early wake-up. But what truly elevated this tour from great to unforgettable was our guide, Preston.
Preston is outstanding. He’s incredibly knowledgeable, weaving in fascinating details about the volcano’s geology, Hawaiian history, and the deep cultural importance of Haleakalā that made everything come alive. His storytelling kept us engaged the whole time, even when we were still waking up at 3 AM. On top of that, he’s genuinely funny — his witty jokes and lighthearted banter had the whole group laughing and in great spirits throughout the morning.
What really stood out was how much Preston went the extra mile for every single person on the tour. He was constantly checking in to make sure everyone was warm and comfortable, handing out snacks, and even wiping condensation and frost off the van windows on the way down so we all had clear, perfect views of the scenery. He also shared practical photo tips and pointers about where to stand for the best shots, which made the whole experience smoother and more enjoyable.
Preston didn’t just lead the tour — he turned it into a personal, memorable adventure and made every guest feel truly cared for. If you’re planning a Haleakalā sunrise experience in Maui, book with Polynesian Adventures and hope you get Preston as your guide. He made our morning absolutely unforgettable.

Knowledgeable, friendly, interesting- a super great story teller with lots of fun facts that had us captivated with him the whole morning. You are so lucky to have someone working for you that has such passion about the land and culture as he does! Truly memorable experience — sunrise summit in Maui - A MUST DO activity when in Maui. Unique experience. Went with family of four including 2 teens -14 & 17. Everyone gave 5 stars.
Our guide Preston was funny, knowledgeable, shared facts about Maui and its history, didn’t rush us, and was on time. Thanks Preston!
Note: bring warm gear-coat, hats, gloves, heated hand warmers —even this Michigan girl was chilly on a warmer summit day. Bus is always there for a warm up but then you lose viewing time.

Wonderful Haleakala Tour - Preston was a great host for our tour. Good mix of humor and historical knowledge about Haleakala and Maui. Dress warm even if the temps seem high. Wear lots of layers, you can always leave them on the bus if you don’t need them.
