Every year, these majestic animals migrate south from Alaska, and while they can be spotted throughout Hawaii, the ‘Au ‘au channel near Maui’s coast hosts the largest population. The warm, relatively shallow, and protected waters here provide an ideal environment for humpbacks to mate and give birth to their calves. These whales are famous for their acrobatics and are frequently seen breaching completely out of the ocean!
