MABABE DEPRESSION
Maun - The journey will commence from Maun at dawn, embarking on a 6 to 7-hour trip to the Mababe Depression.
Mababe - The Mababe Depression is an expansive area accessible after crossing an ancient sand ridge. It is renowned as a wildlife sanctuary during the dry season. When the seasonal pans retain water, and during the wet season, herds of zebras and other herbivores gather to graze on the nutrient-rich grasses. A brunch will be enjoyed before setting out on an afternoon game drive to explore the surroundings. Upon returning, a team dinner by the campfire will be held, featuring activities and storytelling.
SAVUTI DAY TRIP
Savuti - A light breakfast will be served before heading to Savuti. The Savuti area is situated between the Okavango Delta to the west and Chobe National Park to the east. It is acclaimed as one of Africa’s premier big game regions. Savuti is a place of allure and immense beauty, boasting one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Southern Africa. It is famous for its captivating channel, which stretches approximately 100km from the Chobe River through a gap in the sand ridge to the Mababe Depression. Savuti is also renowned for its predators, particularly the lion and spotted hyena populations. Birdwatching is a popular activity here (remember to bring binoculars); species such as the national bird, the Kgori, and secretary birds can be seen roaming the vast Savuti marsh. A lunch break will provide an opportunity to learn more about Savuti’s desert-like landscape, characterized by its loose, hot sand. The interaction between lions and elephants is a particularly fascinating aspect of Savuti. The marsh is prime cheetah territory, and during the wet season, wild dogs are often seen hunting in Savuti.
KHWAI
Khwai Concession - The Khwai concession runs along the Khwai River, bordering the northern part of Moremi. This section of the Okavango Delta is consistently teeming with wildlife. Animals that can be spotted in these areas include elephants, giraffes, lions, jackals, buffalo, cheetahs, wildebeests, hyenas, and zebras. Khwai is a village located on the north bank of the Khwai River in Botswana’s North-West District. The river marks the northern boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve, and the village is just outside the reserve’s north gate, on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta. Khwai offers all that Moremi does, as it is part of the greater reserve, with no fences restricting wildlife movement.
KHWAI MOKORO
Khwai - Game drives will explore the area surrounding the magnificent Khwai River. A mokoro (dug-out canoe) excursion will follow, taking participants along a tributary of the Khwai River to view wildlife from a different perspective and experience a serene mode of transport.
RETURN THROUGH MOREMI
Mababe - The return journey will pass through Moremi on a sightseeing expedition. On the way back to Maun, a scenic route will be taken to capture one last view of the wildlife.
