- Trou aux Cerfs - Begin your day with a relaxing walk around the crater of Trou Aux Cerf.
A beloved spot in the city with breathtaking views, this dormant volcano is a delightful gem overlooking the town of Curepipe and offers a commanding view of the island. This vast volcanic crater, approximately 85 meters deep and 300 meters wide, reveals the origins of this paradise island formed millions of years ago.
- Curepipe - Discover the Town of Curepipe and savor some local street food at the Market.
Curepipe boasts a variety of attractions, making it an ideal destination for tourists. Visitors can explore the War Memorial, situated in front of a majestic colonial-era building, Royal College Curepipe, the island’s oldest and most prestigious college, recently celebrating its 200th anniversary.
Additionally, the Curepipe Botanical Garden is a large and beautiful garden built around a vast pond. The garden is home to a unique specimen of an endemic tree, which is under constant care and supervision.
- Mare aux Vacoas - Established in 1885, Mare aux Vacoas holds the distinction of being the largest reservoir on the island, with a capacity of nearly 26 million cubic meters. The area is also known for its refreshing breeze, surrounded by a dense rainforest of various tropical trees such as eucalyptus, pine, and casuarinas.
- Grand Bassin - A visit to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin is a must while in Mauritius. Known as the largest Hindu temple on the island, this place is more serene and tranquil than it initially appears. Many devotees can be seen praying to Hindu deities, offering fruits and lighting scented incense, creating a spiritual atmosphere in the calm surroundings.
Due to the abundance of fruits during prayers, monkeys can sometimes be seen sneaking out from the trees to take advantage of the situation. The guide will lead visitors to the Hanuman Statue located atop a hill. Although it requires a fairly long climb, it offers a rewarding view overlooking the sacred lake with stunning island vistas. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see the impressive 108-foot statues of Lord Shiva and Lord Durga, among the largest of their kind in the world.
- Alexandra Falls - The tranquil surroundings of Alexandra Falls offer a glimpse into the island’s past, sheltered by a rich and untouched rainforest with around 200 species of trees, shrubs, plants, and wildlife. Relax with loved ones as you listen to the falls from a distance, comforted by melodious sounds.
- Gorges Viewpoint - Situated in one of the highest parts of the National Park, this viewpoint is sure to take your breath away as you gaze upon the valley rich with vibrant green vegetation, along with the occasional majestic Paille En Queue, the national bird of Mauritius, gliding joyfully in its habitat.
- Chamarel Waterfalls - Enjoy an unforgettable visit to the Chamarel Waterfall, renowned for its breathtaking location surrounded by lush landscapes. It is celebrated as the highest waterfall in Mauritius!
- Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark - A short drive across the reserve leads to the enchanting seven-colored earth of Chamarel. Witness the various colors of the soil, cooled at different temperatures millions of years ago, where the rains have carved beautiful patterns into the hillside, creating an effect of earthen meringue.
- Viewpoint - The Chamarel Viewpoint is a family-friendly spot offering an amazing panoramic view of the entire Chamarel village below. It is recommended to bring sunglasses and a camera to capture the splendid view of the green hilly region and an aerial view of Ile Aux Benitiers.
- The Martello Tower Museum - The next stop takes visitors back in time with a visit to the ‘Martello Tower’ located on the beach of La Preneuse.
The Martello Tower was built under British rule in Mauritius as a means of detecting invaders from afar and protecting the beach. In the 1990s, the tower was converted into a museum showcasing the weapons used by the British Empire.
- On this tour, visits to the Martello Tower Museum are scheduled for Wednesday and Friday only. During closure, a photo stop will be made instead.
- Tamarin Salt Pans - The last place in Mauritius to produce salt using traditional methods, the Tamarin Salt Pans are rich in local culture and history. Despite modern methods of salt production, Tamarin salt pans still account for about a third of the salt produced in Mauritius.
Saltwater is pumped from the sea into large basins covering an area of 30 hectares, where it is left to evaporate. In the early mornings and evenings, experienced workers collect the salt cubes before they are crushed into smaller pieces if needed and packaged for use.
A quick photo stop will be made here.
