- El Faro Mazatlan - Constructed in 1879, this lighthouse is situated at the southernmost point of the city and stands as one of Mazatlan’s most iconic landmarks. Visitors will have the opportunity to drive by and, if desired, climb to the top, which is 500 feet above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the entire city and the Sierra Madre mountains in the distance. The ascent provides numerous chances to capture stunning photographs. Additionally, there is a glass floor bridge extending from the hillside. It is advisable to bring bottled water and a small towel to stay refreshed in the warm weather. The tour will proceed along the Bay Area towards the Olas Altas neighborhood, with a few stops at scenic viewpoints for photography. The driver will share basic historical insights and answer any questions upon request.
- Playa Olas Altas - Continuing along Paseo del Centenario, visitors will soon encounter the historic beachfront hotels known as Olas Altas, a favorite among tourists and locals alike. This area is rich in history and offers a delightful experience with its coffee shops, restaurants, and bars. Guests can choose to take a brief walking tour or continue riding through the historic center. Capture a memorable photo of Carpa Olivera, a saltwater pool in the ocean built in 1914, as the waves replenish it. The journey continues along Angel Flores Street, renowned for its vibrant houses, making it one of the most photographed streets in Olas Altas.
- Punta de Clavadistas - Mazatlan boasts its own diving tradition at a small ocean-side park on the Malecon. Divers leap from a 50-foot high platform into water that is only 5 or 6 feet deep. This cliff diving tradition in Mazatlan dates back to the mid-1900s when the platform was constructed on the Malecon.
- Plaza Machado - This town square was established in 1837 by a wealthy Filipino businessman named Juan Nepomuceno Machado to showcase the area’s prosperity at the time. Plaza Machado is surrounded by beautiful palm trees, gardens, restaurants, bars, and shops that maintain the classic architecture. While strolling through the plaza, visitors can admire the renowned Angela Peralta Theatre located adjacent to the square. The theatre was restored in 1993 after enduring a dramatic history of hurricanes, floods, and near demolition.
- Catedral Mazatlan Basilica de la Inmaculada Concepcion - The Mazatlan Cathedral is a stunning Baroque and Gothic-style church situated in the downtown area. Construction began in 1856 and was completed in 1899. The church’s interior is uniquely adorned with chandeliers, marble, wood, and gold. An intriguing historical fact is that the Jewish community contributed to the church’s completion, resulting in the inclusion of the Star of David in 28 stained-glass windows. Across the street from the Cathedral is the Plaza Republica town square, surrounded by trees, palm trees, and beautiful gardens.
- Mercado Pino Suarez - Operating since 1899, this market is a daily destination for both locals and tourists seeking groceries and souvenirs. Visitors will have 30 minutes of free time to explore or shop for souvenirs. A visit to Panama Bakery is recommended for fresh bakery items, cakes, pies, and treats.
- Malecon de Mazatlan - The Malecon is akin to a pier or boardwalk along the city’s coastline, stretching approximately 20 km. It begins at the southern end of Olas Altas beach and extends to Valentino’s nightclub in the Golden Zone. It is considered the second-longest beachfront walkway in the world and serves as the main venue for many of Mazatlan’s events, such as Carnival. Numerous attractions, fountains, monuments, and photo opportunities are scattered along the Malecon.
- Golden Zone - Explore the Seashell City Museum, open since 1979, which offers an extensive collection of seashells of various kinds, sizes, and shapes. This area boasts a wide array of businesses and activities, including souvenir shops, restaurants, jewelry stores, bars, markets, and the Playa Gaviotas beach area. Visitors can choose to explore the area, enjoy a meal at a fine restaurant, or relax at Playa Gaviotas beach before returning to the ship.
- Michael Gallery - During the city tour, an optional stop can be made at Michael’s Gallery, one of Mazatlán’s most esteemed local art and silver shops. This welcoming venue allows visitors to browse at their leisure, with no obligation to purchase. Michael’s offers a curated selection of 100% Mexican-made silver jewelry, handcrafted art pieces, ceramics, textiles, and unique souvenirs. All items are guaranteed for authenticity and quality, ensuring a confident shopping experience if something catches the eye. The area surrounding the gallery is also delightful to explore, featuring small artisan stores, coffee shops, local boutiques, and charming streets perfect for a leisurely walk or photos. Guests can simply enjoy the surroundings, explore, or relax as they wish. The aim is to provide visitors with a comfortable, pressure-free experience, showcasing some of the finest local craftsmanship Mazatlán has to offer.
