The ksar comprises tower-like buildings known as ghorfas, which are chambers or cells built within the main building’s walls.
  Ksar Hadada served as a filming location for some scenes in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, particularly those set on Tatooine, the desert planet where young Anakin Skywalker resides. Specifically, the ksar was used to depict the exterior of Anakin’s mother Shmi Skywalker’s house when Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi arrive in the village seeking parts to repair their ship.

  In The Phantom Menace, Ksar Ouled Soltane was used to film the exterior of Anakin’s mother Shmi Skywalker’s house. Indeed, the earth and stone towers of Ksar Ouled Soltane closely resemble Shmi Skywalker’s habitat as depicted in the film.
