- Mdina Old City - The journey begins with a pick-up from your location in Malta around 9:00 am, heading to the historic city of Mdina. Centrally located, this impressive fortified town is strategically perched on a hill, offering a panoramic view of the entire island and its landscape. The ramparts provide a perfect vantage point for visitors and photography enthusiasts. With origins tracing back to the late Roman era, the hill is believed to have been inhabited since Neolithic times.
Visitors can enjoy strolling through the narrow streets and along the ramparts. Across the street, there’s an opportunity to taste local pastizzi, a delightful pastry filled with peas or cheese.
- St Paul’s Catacombs - Following the Mdina visit, the Paleo-Christian Catacombs of St Paul await exploration. This burial site from Punic and Roman times is the earliest and largest archaeological evidence of Christianity in Malta. Its connection to the saint stems from the legend that these catacombs were once linked to St Paul’s Grotto. An admission fee is required, and while some areas may be challenging, it remains a fascinating site for history enthusiasts.
- Mosta - After departing Ta’ Qali, the next stop is Mosta to see the Mosta Church, also known as the Mosta Dome, famous for being the third-largest unsupported dome in the world.
A quick lunch stop is optional.
- Dingli Cliffs - Situated on Malta’s western coast, the Dingli Cliffs rise 253 meters above sea level, marking the highest point on the island. These cliffs are a popular attraction for tourists seeking a peaceful walk with stunning views of Filfa and the Mediterranean Sea.
Visitors to the Dingli Cliffs will quickly realize the breathtaking nature of the views. The countryside beneath the cliffs, with its terraced fields, adds to the scenic beauty.
- Mnajdra Temples - The megalithic temples of ĦaÄ¡ar Qim and Mnajdra are significant sites from Malta’s Neolithic period. ĦaÄ¡ar Qim stands on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the islet of Filfa, less than 2km southwest of the village of Qrendi. At the hill’s base, just 500m away, are the remarkable Mnajdra temples. Both sites are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. The remains date between 3800 – 2200 BC, known as the Ä gantija phase in Maltese prehistory.
Visitors can either explore the interpretation center and enter the temples for a fee or enjoy a free walk around the archaeological park.
- Blue Grotto (Il-Hnejja) - The Blue Grotto consists of several sea caverns on Malta’s southeast coast, near the fishing harbor limits of Wied iż-Żurrieq.
- Marsaxlokk - After exploring the blue caverns of Qrendi, immerse yourself in Maltese culture at Marsaxlokk, a charming fishing town in southern Malta known for its colorful luzzu boats. Visitors can relax by the sea or enjoy a meal at one of the local restaurants, perhaps savoring fresh fish caught by local fishermen or another traditional dish.
This marks the final stop of the day, with the group reconvening around 4:45 pm to return to the hotel.
