Here, they will meet the local guide for a walking tour of Mdina, the fortified medieval city that once served as Malta’s capital. Guests will explore narrow, winding streets from medieval times, experiencing various architectural styles and historically significant baroque buildings. The city is encircled by impressive bastions offering breathtaking panoramic views of the island.
Guests will stroll from Main Street to Main Square and then to St. Paul’s Cathedral.
- Mdina Metropolitan Cathedral Museum - This visit includes St. Paul’s Cathedral in Mdina and the adjacent Mdina Cathedral Museum, which guests can explore in any order they prefer.
The museum showcases exquisite silverware, rare coins, a significant collection of prints and engravings by Albrecht Dürer, one of the greatest Northern Renaissance artists, Maltese objets d’art, wax reliefs, a trompe l’oeil Baroque dome, numerous paintings, and other artifacts.
- Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Paul - Following the museum visit, guests will proceed to the Cathedral of St. Paul.
The interior of this magnificent building is lavishly decorated with a colorful inlaid marble floor, a frescoed ceiling depicting the Shipwreck of St. Paul, and a multitude of other splendid features including altarpieces, paintings, marble works, intricate woodwork, silver artifacts, statues, and stained glass windows.
- Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum - Dating back to the 13th century, this palace features one of the island’s most beautiful courtyards, complete with a stunning Renaissance staircase. Guests will be captivated by the exquisite objets d’art, furniture, and armor, relics of its last owner, Olof Gollcher.
- Howard Gardens - Visitors can unwind and enjoy lunch at the tranquil Howard Gardens outside Mdina City. They can savor the delicious pastizzi available from a nearby shop. After lunch, the visitors, accompanied by their guide, will be picked up by their private driver and taken to the City of Valletta.
