Initially, the wine was produced for the island and later extensively exported, especially to Russia. Built in 1947 by the Venetsanos family, it was the island’s first industrial winery. Its most notable feature is its architectural design, which utilized gravity for energy efficiency, at a time when access to electricity and other energy sources was scarce. The winery was uniquely constructed from the top downwards.
