Abuna Yemata Guh Church - Upon reaching Mekelle, meet the guide at the airport and proceed to Hawzen (Gheralta area), where the renowned churches are situated. Arrival in Hawzen is expected by noon.
After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Abuna Yemata Guh Church, one of the most renowned rock-hewn churches in Tigray. This church is carved into a cliff at an elevation of approximately 2,580 meters (8,460 feet) above sea level. The journey involves a challenging hike and some climbing, but the breathtaking views and the overall experience are truly memorable. An assistant will accompany you during the climb.
Abuna Yemata Guh Church was constructed in the 5th or 6th century by Abune Yemata, one of the Nine Saints who helped spread Christianity in Ethiopia.
Inside the church, the walls and ceilings are adorned with well-preserved frescoes that date back centuries.
