Great Otway National Park - Located in southern Victoria, Australia, this park features rugged coastlines, beaches, and the Otway Ranges mountains. It is home to waterfalls like the Triplet Falls and boardwalks through the temperate rainforest at Maits Rest. The 1848 Cape Otway Lightstation sits on cliffs overlooking Bass Strait. The Great Ocean Walk traverses the park to the Twelve Apostles rock formations.
Great Ocean Road and Beyond - The Great Ocean Road is divided into three sections: the Surf Coast, Otway Ranges, and the Shipwreck Coast.
Plenty of time is allocated to explore all three sections. The journey begins at Torquay (Surf Coast), offering numerous photo opportunities with stunning coastal views and lookouts, including the famous Bells Beach. Inland, spot native Australian wildlife like the Eastern Grey Kangaroos grazing in the wild.
The journey continues along the scenic, cliff-hugging section of the Great Ocean Road.
The itinerary includes visiting the ‘Memorial Arch’ and learning the fascinating story of this road before arriving in Lorne, the largest seaside township with many shops. Enjoy the sea air during a stroll and take photographs.
From Lorne, the journey continues along this spectacular road to the Wye River region, where lunch is enjoyed at the Wye River Cafe overlooking the sea. After lunch, the journey continues along this iconic road, visiting scenic spots like The Kennett River, where koalas and colorful native birds can be spotted in the wild. Travel through Apollo Bay into the Great Otway National Park (Otway Ranges). A guided walk through a cool temperate rainforest gully reveals the world’s tallest flowering plants, prehistoric trees, ferns, and other unique features.
The next stop is one of Australia’s most iconic vistas, the 12 Apostles.
Arrive as the stacks are illuminated by the afternoon sun, perfect for photos. Learn about the creation of the stacks and hold some limestone rock. Explore the boardwalks or take a helicopter flight along the coastline (at own expense). Visit ‘Loch Ard Gorge’, the site of a famous 19th-century Australian shipwreck.
Accommodation for the first night is in the small fishing village of Port Campbell, nestled in a beautiful natural port with wonderful cafés and restaurants for dinner (at own expense) and views.
