Melk Abbey - Located in Melk, this grand Benedictine monastery is majestically situated on a rocky cliff overlooking the Danube. From the monastery’s terraces or nearby gardens, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the river and the surrounding area. A stroll around the monastery is a delightful sensory journey, with the fragrance of lavender, the sound of fountains, and the shimmering light on the golden domes.
Tickets to the Abbey range from 11-14 EUR per person and are not included. - Durnstein - The first stop is Dürnstein, a picturesque town featuring a baroque monastery, a distinctive blue-and-white tower, and the ruins of a castle where Richard the Lionheart was once held captive. A 20-30 minute walk up a forest path leads to Durnstein Castle, offering spectacular views of the Danube, vineyards, and surrounding hills.
- Burgruine Aggstein - Continue along the Danube on a scenic route bordered by vineyards and rocky cliffs. Make a brief stop at one of the wine terraces, such as those in the villages of Spitz or Weissenkirchen, to admire the panoramic views of the Wachau from above.
Next, visit the impressively situated Aggstein Castle, which stands 300 meters above the river. Drive to the parking area and take a short walk to the castle, which provides one of the most breathtaking vistas of the winding Danube. On a clear day, the view extends for miles, framed by forests and rocks.
Tickets to the castle are 10.50 EUR per person and are not included.
