Great Museum - Excellent museum. It is well laid out and really details music history. You can easily spend 2 hours or more. Go early before the crowds arrive.

The Joy of Hearing Music - We spent three hours in this museum. We wish we could have stayed longer. This museum is associated with the Smithsonian. The museum features many locations where you can sit and use headphones to hear the songs from the relevant era. I could have listened all day. If you are into music, do not miss this museum.

Fantastic! Educational! Reasonable price! - My husband and I enjoyed this little museum immensely!! Very informative and interesting history of the way things were back then! Sad, but somehow some of the things have not changed!?!? Well worth the price. We were there 2 hours because we read almost everything and listened to almost everything!!

Much to learn about the origins of blues - Very interesting museum about the emergence of Black Music and the history. It awaits a lot of background knowledge about the development of soul with lots of exhibits from the time and an interesting audio guide to accompany you musically

An Invaluable Treasure! - The Memphis Rock n Soul Museum provides comprehensive look at the origins of most American music of the last 80 years. Not only does the museum set forth the history of southern society after the Civil War, it sets forth the cultural influences that whites and blacks had on each other and provides insights into the daily life of the people. The museum contains an exhibit showing that, before the TVA, people could enjoy electricity only through machines that could be charged through turning a crank to generate the needed electricity or using a battery. Most companies provided only one battery a year, which, under normal use was consumed within the first 90 days. The museum shows how white country music and black gospel music and those who performed the music interacted, both before and after World War II. It presents the story of Sun Records, Stax Studio and many other creative incubators and how they developed emerging talent. There apparently was more interaction between white and black singers and musicians than the public knew. I can only assume that commercial pressure to respond to cultural imperatives dictated the small degree to which the public was allowed to see this. I also went to Sun Records and Stax Studio. They are both great and are worth your time, as are the B.B. King venues. But this museum ties it all together. It can be done well in 90 minutes, and be a good investment of time.

Must do! - Must see. We really enjoyed this museum. The exhibit was great. To give you your equipment to listen to music while you walk through and have a great video to start. Staff working there were extremely friendly and pleasant

Without the audio equipment with the ... - ... headphones are only worth half that. So you should definitely set up this audio guide and enter the appropriate numbers to hear the explanations of the exhibits and the associated music. Then the whole thing becomes a round thing. The museum is relatively small, there are about five rooms and you are through in about 30-45 minutes. With parking it is not quite easy before, as everywhere is paid or prohibited. But you can park about 500-800 m further in the surrounding streets (e.g. on Vance Av.) and then walk. That's supposed to be healthy. If, like me, you have been to Sun Studios and the Stax Museum and Graceland before, then a lot of things seem familiar.
