Magical Night! - Our guide, Captain Mike, was exceptional! One of the very best tour guides we’ve ever had, and we’ve had more than a few. Experienced, patient, funny, and loves what he does.
Before we loaded into our glass bottomed kayak, he provided an overview of bioluminescence and the comb jellyfish (which also light up) we expected to see. He also explained that the darker it is, the greater chance of seeing both.
We then kayaked to the darkest area under a bridge where he showed us how to trail our paddles, hands, and small nets through the water to activate the bioluminescence. The water lit up as if we were in Avatar! We also caught many comb jellies (all safely returned to the sea) and watched them glow in iridescent colors. My husband and I felt like kids, it was absolutely magical.
Thank you, Captain Mike!

Bioluminescent Kayak Tour – Twice the Fun! - I went on a bioluminescent kayak tour a few weeks ago with some friends, just tagging along since my friend made all the arrangements. Chayse was our guide, and she was fantastic—keeping us safe, together as a group, and sharing cool info about the area. She knew where to go for the best glow. It was an unforgettable trip!
When I got home and told my mom how amazing it was, she immediately wanted to go. So, twist my arm—I went again! This time I did my own research and made calls to several companies because I wanted to make sure my mom had the best experience possible. Cocoa Kayaking stood out, and they did not disappoint.
On our second trip, we went during the week with Captain Michael. It was a smaller group, which made for a more personal experience. Mike was awesome—super knowledgeable and attentive, always making sure everyone was having a great time and getting their questions answered.
Both trips were incredible, and the guides—Chayse and Mike—really made them special. I highly recommend Cocoa Kayaking for anyone considering a bioluminescent tour!

Bioluminescent kayak adventure - What an amazing night. It was claim and peaceful. The bioluminescence were bright blue. There were lots of comb jellyfish. We went under the bridge as the moon was half full. It was the prefect spot to see everything. It was nice and dark under the bridge. Captain Mike was amazing and very informative. This is our 4th adventure with Cocoa Kayak. Wouldn’t use anyone else.

Beautiful...and Buggy! (But, it's worth it!) - The mosquitoes are ravenous out on the water. So, make sure you take your guide up on when they offer their "industrial strength mosquito repellent" and slather it everywhere - even over your clothes. But, braving the bugs is so worth it. The bioluminescent algae and comb jellies are beautiful. They produce a blue glow when the water is disturbed. We had a warm night with a light breeze, and it was lovely being out in the calm estuary. Our guide, Chayse, was great - upbeat, knowledgeable, and excited to share her passion for the natural beauty of the Merritt Island waterways. Bring a change of clothes, especially if you plan on getting into the water (2-4' deep in most of the places where you'll be paddling.) Florida has one of maybe 4 areas of bioluminescence in the country, so definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Highly recommend!

A Must-Do Tour – Knowledgeable and Friendly Guide Chaise - We had an absolutely incredible experience on the bioluminescence tour with Chaise! From the moment we arrived, she made us feel welcome and at ease. Chaise was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about what she does. She explained everything in a way that was both engaging and easy to understand, pointing out details we might have otherwise missed.
The tour itself was magical — the water lit up with every movement, creating an unforgettable glow. Chaise knew exactly where to take us for the best views and ensured everyone had a safe, enjoyable time. Her enthusiasm made the experience even more memorable, and she was patient in answering all our questions.
If you’re considering a bioluminescence tour, don’t hesitate — book with Chaise at Cocoa Kayaking!! It was an experience we will never forget, and we can’t recommend her highly enough.
Their kayaks are all see through on the bottom, but honestly the adventure is with your hands, net (they provide; see photo), and paddle in the water. The catch and release jellies in a jar is so neat! Seeing the rainbow glow is mind boggling. Free photos before and after. Go have a great and safe trip. It’s worth 2 hours of your time as long as you can be a kid and play with glowing algae. Seriously go live a little and have fun!
